Recently, TUAW posted about how Mobile Mouse could be used with Siri for iPhone-to-Mac remote dictation. While trying it out, I grew annoyed by transposition errors at the start of my text. So I decided to put several similar solutions to the test. What Mobile Mouse Pro ($1.99), RowMote Pro ($4.99), Edovia's TouchPad ($4.99), and Splashtop Touchpad (Free, normally $4.99) have in common is that each app provides a way to send mouse events and key strokes to your Mac. For this post, we decided not to test full screen sharing apps like iTeleport and LogMeIn due to the more extensive set-up involved. (iTeleport offers a similar $0.99 Touchpad Elite app, but we were unable to get a copy in time for this write-up.) To test them, I dictated the same text sample into TextEdit, courtesy of the iTunes Terms and Conditions. To do this, I connected each app to my Read More

05.18.09        Remote Mice and Trackpads – The last time I went to my local coffee shop to slurp a large Sumatra, with a splash of free Wi-Fi, I realized I had forgotten my wireless mouse. I’m not fond of using trackpads, especially the one on my Dell, so I broke out my iPhone and went to work with that instead. Not long ago, I downloaded , from R.P.A. Tech. As it name suggests, it’s an air mouse. It’s also a conventional mouse, a trackpad and a remote control for iTunes. Check out my review for more details. I raved about Air Mouse Pro, but I have since looked at several remote mice and trackpad apps and I would use any of them in a pinch. When I get around to finishing the home theater PC I’m building, I’ll use my iPhone as a remote control from my comfy Read More

Not as excited as the others

It works fine but this uses a VNC server to control the mouse and type on the keyboard. I use Vista (feel sorry for me now) and when I connect my desktop background picture dissappears. You can change this in the VNC server properties but I think this should not be disabled by Jugaari with their "modified" setup.
Works Perfect!
M. Jacobs 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Probably the best if not one of the better touchpad/mouse controls for the iPhone. Installing the software on your PC takes no time and the app itself works flawlessly. Full keyboard/mouse control with functions keys, arrows, you name it!
No Dual Monitor Support
nonother 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am running the Vine Server and while it works, it only works on my MacBook Pro screen and not on my external monitor that is attached. There is no indication from the description that Touchpad Elite does not support a multi-display setup. This is a massive issue for me. I am giving it 3 stars because it does everything really well - but ONLY for one monitor. That was $5 down the drain until they fix this issue - having a mouse that can only be used on half of my screen real estate is just silly. Please address this issue - and in the meantime have the respect of putting a disclaimer in the description.
Best controller I've seen
blukas 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've tried many other computer remote apps like this; this destroys them all. Not only multifunctional but very well thought out. From what I've seen so far even the first release has all the features I could want immediately. Hopefully there will be some cool updates that I can't even think of, but until then it's still the best controller I've seen.
Perfect for what it is
Iderdik 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
If you don't need a full fledged vnc client, this app is perfect. I use it to control my media center PC with my thumb. Great job at pulling this feature from the jaadu product and charging less for this. Well worth the price!
WOW!!!
mikeman118 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This application is just amazing... does everything that I could ask for! Everything works, except for the occasional crash. It's very simple to use and professional looking. I would pay $4.99 or however much it normally costs, but I'm so glad I got it for free! And the fact that people are complaining that it doesn't show the screen, come on! Did they not even read the description? This is a really great app... everyone should have it.
wonderful app
touch_fan 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
touchpad filled a hardware mess in my media center. I have an old laptop that drives my TV monitor and serves as my music and movie server. For it all to work, I needed a keyboard, mouse and my apple remote. keeping all of those out by the couch was messy. With touchpad, my iphone has replaced all of them. It's not that efficient if you need to type a bunch of stuff but it's definitely good enough for general web surfing, inputing passwords and search criteria. Touchpad has several different button overlays that are well taylored for different tasks. For example, the media keypad is great for operating front row and the multitouch keypad is a great addition to an older laptop that doesn't have it natively. They keyboard is familiar to anyone with an iphone.
Awesome

Simply awesome. Works flawlessly with my mac. The best, hooking up my computer to the tv to watch movies and to have the remote right here from my couch with touchpad is priceless. Don't change a thing. This is perfect!
Pure Awesome

I take back what I said. Definately worth the $5, even though I got it for free! So powerful!

This tiny little app has saved me the trouble of needing to buy a separate wireless keyboard and mouse for my Macbook. That's not to say that I am now using Touchpad Elite for Photoshop or anything, but the particular home entertainment setup I have has made this app essential for whenever I end up hooking my Mac up to the TV.
Great
Sanderpanston 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
This app is genius. I use it to control a mac mini hooked up to a TV. Way better than using the mouse from the couch. There are two setups, an easier one and one with more steps. I have only tried the easy one (30 second setup) and it is slightly jumpy. Does not bother me though.
Great App!!
Risewithin 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
Great great app. I only gave it four stars because of the cursor jumping around when watching video or while dragging while using Apple Remote Desktop. Also it is missing a key feature I think...Volume up/down control (only while using Apple Remote Desktop). Now when I connect through Vine VNC server I get the volume up/down control but the only thing that works is the mouse but there is no jumping cursor while watching video. I haven't tried any of the other servers but I have contacted customer support about this. Everyone says their support is great so I'm testing that now. All in all a great app. for .99 cents. Great job would recommend to family and friends.
Great app

This app is incredibly useful for controlling the machine hooked to my tv. Zero issues connecting to multiple windows machines for more than a month. I run Ultra VNC v1.5.

Much more than a mouse! The media remote is great! I'll never use that little white Ir remote that came with my iMac again. Line of sight is so 2008. Drag and drop if you can do it with a keyboard and mouse you can do it with this app. I bought this one by mistake not realizing I had all these features in jaadu vnc. I suggest jaadu vnc to everyone it's the most useful app in the store!
works like a charm!
vccc 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Just gave it a test drive and works just like advertised!
Great Features, but far from perfect.
noraar 3.0 stars Version: 2.0
There's a lot of potential is the touchpad, the problem is it currently seems very buggy. When connected to my Mac using Apple's built in screen sharing a number of the features don't work correctly (mainly screen zooming...and yes I have it enabled in Universal Access) and more importantly there is an obvious lag b/w when I move my finger on the iPhone and when the cursor moves on my screen, causing strange jumps and moments of unresponsiveness. In addition, when dragging a window there is consider lag, making it nearly impossible to drag windows using the iPhone. On the other hand, if I download the free Vine Server things run considerably smoother (though the screen zoom still doesn't work). The biggest problem with this method though is that Vine only supports one monitor - your main display. When I'm at my desk I have my MacBook Pro connected to an external monitor. The external monitor is my main display, the MacBook Pro's display is the secondary. With Vine server I cannot move my cursor to the builtin display at all - as far as Vine (and subsequently Touchpad Elite) is considered that display does not exist. Now, while this has been mostly negative, there is a lot to like about this application. It's support for multi-touch gestures is unrivaled by any other trackpad app out there (as far as I know) and the fact that it also includes a keyboard, support for modifier keys, and even a four-way arrow screen really makes for a feature rich application. I appreciate the effort put into this app, just wish it was less buggy and more responsive.
The solution I've been looking for!!

Thanks so much for this awesome app!
Works on Linux
efunk 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
Just writing to say that this app is compatible with VNC servers running on Linux. (In GNOME go to System -> Preferences -> Remote Desktop to enable remote connections.)
not working

Couldn't get this to work on iMac and D-Link server, even after following all their instructions for configuring the server, which they say is compatible.
A Must Have!

Totally worth the $$$!
Can't get it working on Windows :(
The Park Family 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Works fine on my Mac, but won't work on Windows XP. Jaadu VNC, RDP, and Click all work awesome on XP, but I cannot get Touchpad to work. The PC side is fine and works. BUT... The iApp freezes when it tries to log in.
Great app
GrooveyRoovey 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Snagged it while it was free and I totally love this app. Finally I can do all the stuff that is cumbersome with a "regular" (screen transfering) client. I especially love the remote control section. Would be awesome if it would resemble the Apple Remote. This app works fast and stable. Recommended for everyone who looks for a way to remote control the computer - and/or impress friends :)
works as advertised
Nat 12345 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
but needs right click and a windows key. a scroll wheel would also be nice, and dragging. multi touch anyone?
Muy útil

Que buena app de verdad. Me ha sido se mucha utilidad.
Works Perfectly
ZachSully 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Works perfectly on mac with the built in screen sharing. And there are some people who are confused: there is already a scrolling feature (use two fingers) and this app isn't supposed to show the screen (whoever wrote the first review).
Wow. Flawless mouse control, exposé, and keyboard!
unscriptable 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Just turn on the Screen Sharing in your Mac's Sharing System Preferences, and BANG! you've got yourself a remote touch pad and keyboard! No scary downloads or installs of PC software (sorry Windows users, but you have no choice but to install software). Better still, you've got a touch pad that has all of the latest multi-touch gestures! I have a presentation coming up in a few days and this is going to make it so much more impressive!
Works perfect with my Macs
lowbatteries 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Software is beutifully done and provides every function I needed
Amazing
Tamaros 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Everything I needed. I wanted to use my phone as a remote to control my media PC hooked up to my TV and this does all I need and more. The installation instructions are mostly clear and installation of the 2 required programs is a breeze. Just make sure you don't register VNC as a service. If you do go to the TightVNC folder in the start menu and unregister it. Easy to manipulate files; drag, drop, etc. Foobar2K even recognized the media control shortcuts the way it would media buttons on a keyboard; a cinch to set it up to detect their input. Worth way more than the 99 cents I paid for it
Way too complicated to install
Anonymouseuserguy 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Requires downloading and installing two pieces of software on your PC. Documentation is unhelpful. I'm a moderate-to-advanced computer user and couldn't get the thing to run.
Friggin awesome!
Colis 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Love it so much.
Works really well, with some hiccups
sjonke 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I have this and iTap, and this is much better and costs less too. Touchpad Elite does not have the option for virtual mouse buttons, but in retrospect I think perhaps the method used here (and even in iTap) is probably better given that any such buttons are virtual and you use a touchpad without looking at it typically. That is, you tap (and release) anywhere to click, and tap with two finger (and release) to right click.
