Today is the day that all the wonderful things we heard about during the WWDC keynote regarding the future of the iPhone OS, now officially dubbed iOS 4, are available to everyone. This update is completely free, and only requires you to plug your device in to the computer you usually sync with then waiting for it to download and install in iTunes. There are over 100 new features in iOS 4 according to Apple, but so far my favorite two are folders and multitasking. With folders, you can now have up to 2160 apps on your device, and multitasking now allows for apps like Pandora Radio [Free] to continue playing in the background. A few news items from the business side of iPhone games this week, courtesy of the folks over at Mobile Entertainment. Ngmoco has purchased developer Stumptown Game Machine, creators of their popular Touch Pets Dogs release. Unfortunately, there's no information on how much the deal was worth, but it's a pretty obvious pickup for Ngmoco, which is working on building a stable of freemium titles and developers to produce them. My money's still on an Ngmoco/Booyah deal at some point, too -- Ngmoco has the money to pick up a few other smaller developers thanks to funding, and Booyah has the app and the dedicated users that Ngmoco wants. The two companies have already collaborated with a MyTown promotion on Ngmoco's We Rule, but I can see it going farther eventually. Canabalt [2.99] is getting online leaderboards and some additional obstacles in the not too distant future. We were recently given a sneak peek and shot some video of the new update which hopefully will be released any time now: The new obstacles include a mangled billboards to run across, and a mysteriously massive object that rips apart an entire building which can be seen at the end of the above video. This new huge space-craft (if that is what it is) crashing in to your path has never failed at ending even my best runs since getting the update. Touch Pets Dogs is a pet application that gives users the chance to casually raise a dog right on their iPhone or iPod Touch. Users will feed, groom, play with and even dress the dog how they want to. There are a ton of different breeds to choose from such as a labrador, german shepherd, or jack russel terrier. After selecting the dog you want, you are put through a quite lengthy tutorial on how to take care of your dog. You need to excercise him by throwing frisbees and balls (the balls have nice physics by the way), feed him with bowls of food, and take care of his wonderful mess he leaves in the backyard. In case you’re wondering what the hell Touch Pet Dogs is. It’s ngmoco’s FREE dog “simulation” game. But it’s WAYYY better than any of the other single player pet game in the AppStore. Got Plus+? One of the MAJOR differences is “worldwide multiplayer”. Using the Plus+ network, you can bring your friends dogs on a playdate and play with them, give them food, etc. Can’t Find It? “OMG it’s not available for me!!”. Ya we know. It might take a while as it progresses though iTunes servers worldwide, but keep checking!!
