First Look: Travel organizer Tripit.com offers iPhone app
Calendar16 Sun, 12 Apr 2009 05:30:00 UTC +00:00
Do you travel a lot for business or pleasure? If you do, then you'll find the new free iPhone app (click opens iTunes) from Tripit.com to be a great way to organize your trip plans. Tripit.com imports and interprets your itineraries from airlines, hotel chains, ticket outlets, and other travel companies. When you receive an itinerary from one of these providers, you forward it to a special Tripit email address to have it translated into a trip plan automatically (the site supports hundreds of travel providers, and the translation from email into structured itinerary is really quite amazing). You can share your travel plans with friends or colleagues via LinkedIn, and see when your fellow travelers are heading to a city near you or when their plans align with yours. That collection of trip plans is what you view with the Tripit.com app. The app is linked to your Tripit.com account, Read More

Tracks a lot of stuff, but makes you type everything in, and still has significant bugs...
BradKnowles 1.0 stars Version: 1.00
For $30, I should be able to give it an airline and flight confirmation code, and it should be able to fill in all of the details regarding the flight numbers, date & time, the type of aircraft, the seat number, and all the other relevant details. Even without the flight confirmation code, with just the airline and the flight number, it should at least be able to pull up all the standard details about how those flights are normally operated -- the usual departure & arrival airports, the usual departure & arrival times, the type of aircraft typically used, etc.... All of that information is included in the airline databases.
Favorite application
MoMaverick 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
A user of TravelTracker on Palm OS for many years; I found it to be my favorite and most productive application.
Not up to standard
hersk 2.0 stars Version: 1.00
pecularities from PILOT version remain - time entries have a mind of their own unless you get the sequence exactly right.
I'm very impressed
Tammster 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
I really don't understand how all of the information needed for trips can be conveniently and efficiently stored in the calendar. This program really puts it all together. Sure, you can enter every single thing in the calendar entry but then the next trip you take you have to start all over again. On my Treo I had a few different programs doing this stuff, and the packing list/to do feature in this software is very user friendly. I also see it as a convenient way to look back on prior trip information (assuming it stores past trips???), whereas it might be harder to find in the calendar if you're not sure when you went exactly. It stores frequent flyer info & rewards programs all in one place.
Excellent
Labhunter 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I continue to be baffled by so many reviewers complaining that apps cost money. For those of you doing that, I doubt you work for free. Until you do, shut up and quit providing stupid reviewers. Same goes for those who admittedly have not downloaded the app but think they can write a review.
Indispensable
brazenraisin 4.0 stars Version: 1.01
This was the first iPhone app I bought, based on my experience with the Palm and Windows Mobile versions of the program, and since then I've used it for three mind-bogglingly complicated multileg trips. Many of the negative reviews here were informed by first couple of versions, which were very buggy: the app sometimes crashed in the middle of data entry; airlines disappeared; airport-editing didn't work; schedules shifted as you crossed time zones. I might have ditched the app altogether if, even despite its flaws, it hadn't been such a lifesafer in keeping track of hotel names, reservations, confirmation numbers, and the like -- and if I hadn't found the developer to be so responsive in fixing its faults. Now I feel confident enough about the program to recommend it publicly to my fellow world travelers. The main remaining problem is that TT on the iPhone, unlike its Palm and WM cousins, doesn't integrate with the Calendar program. When you enter a flight or activity, it does not block out the time in the Calendar. The developer says this is a limitation imposed by Apple. Data-entry is also somewhat time-consuming, but again, this is largely Apple's fault for not providing better keyboard and sync'ing solutions.
Nice for organizing many trips
KevinFL 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
I have been using TravelTracker for some time, first on a Treo 650 many years ago. It's a nice digital briefcase for frequent travellers. It's not perfect. However, I like seeing my entire trip on one screen with confirmation numbers, rather than referring to print outs or digging up confirmation e-mails. I discounted some of the other "low star" reviews right at first glance because (1) it was clear that they did not download the software, (2) they are clearly not frequent, perhaps not even occasional fliers. For example, I know, you know, dogs know that an app cannot look up a record locator and populate an itinerary unless it is the original booking agent - a security measure in place since the 80's.
Good One
pjmccam 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
Just came back from a weekend trip that I used this App on and it worked great. There a lot of nits being picked on these reviews and I think that a lot of the apps are being blamed for things that are buggy with the phone and iTunes software. My phone resets several times a day and it isn't with just one app. This one kept good track of my trip for me with very minute detail and that's what I wanted. What I need now though is a way to back these trips up without using iTunes because that backup is buggy and after putting a lot of trips in TravelTracker I don't want to lose them.
Works well for me
Genericnic 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Surely I am not the only one that is not having any significant problems with this app.
Good history with TravelTracker
Avyator 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
I have used the Palm version through three Palm devices and every time I upgraded it got better. I expect the same for the iPhone version of this software. I like the ability to enter my own information because I don't always travel like the rest of the heard. I have had no problem with crashing and I am using the first version of the iPhone. I would like to see the airport database expanded and the ability to enter airports from remote locations as I sometimes fly charter flights and don't always fly on the scheduled air carriers. Overall, my impression is good and I am expecting it to get better, just like the Palm versions did. I like it and would recommend it.
A good start
RachelF2 3.0 stars Version: 1.00
This program is a good start on a great concept. As a frequent business traveler, I would love to have a place to gather all of my travel info. As others have mentioned, this app has a ways to go until it is perfect. It should be able to gather flight times from the airline and flight number. It should be able to gather your seat info, etc... from your record locator. It should be able to tell you haw many miles you have after you type in your frequent flyer number. And it should be more robust so you don't need to reenter all of this data when you are forced to reinstall the app.
Works for me
Queen Celeste 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
I bought this app with a lot of trepidation after reading the reviews. But so far, so good. In fact, I really like it, and imagine that the updates will make it even better. It has only quit a couple of times, otherwise, I like it a lot and know I will be using it for both personal and business travel.
Very buggy. Will you be refunding the $30
bmoeok 1.0 stars Version: 1.00
I should have taken the advice of the first post. Cannot get program to stay open. As soon as I try to change the start date on the trip the program completely closes. Very buggy is an understatement. I will be calling Silverware first thing Monday.
I like it but it's definitely buggy
Pdxtraveler 3.0 stars Version: 1.01
Overall I like this program but it is buggy: 1- entering data takes a while as it seems slow to process and the way to enter data is not intuitive in some cases 2- so far on three different trips when I tried to check the flight status it takes me to the proper webpage for a few seconds then the program crashes every time -- even when I had over 4GB of memory available. I really want to love this program so I remain hopeful for future upgrades to fix these problems
Potential
eliot w 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
Great application with some initial problems that Silverware Software is on top of. Keep eyes open for a new update soon. The folks at Silverware have been great to work with regarding these software issues and I look forward to their improvements.
Good Way to Keep Track of Travel Plans
rkbaker48 4.0 stars Version: 1.01
I used to use Gulliver on the Palm OS to track my travel plans, so was pleased to see someone develop a similar app for the iPhone. TravelTracker does a good job of keeping all travel details for any given trip in one place. I like such an application so that I can go back in, say, a year or two, to see the name of that great hotel I stayed at in a particular city. The original version had a number of bugs (as did many of the iPhone apps I downloaded), but I've been in touch with the developer who is bending over backwards to be helpful and correct bugs as they surface. Silverware certainly gets a 5-star for support. The one thing I'd like to see is a desktop app in which I could more quickly enter (and archive) data.
Great program, just give it a chance
CKPhoto 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
I love this program. Very easy to use with a nice interface. Data entry is quick and having all your trip details stored and sorted together is what makes this program.
Working great
BornInUSA 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I'm loving this product. Just got back from a trip and it worked flawlessly. Easy to use. I don't understand these reviews about crashing. I have found the latest 1.3 version to be fantastic.
Very useful app
lkpm 5.0 stars Version: 1.00
This is a very useful app for keeping track of important travel information all in one place. The upcoming features will make it even better. It's an indispensable tool.
I trusted the author! Happy I did
coffeedb 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
I have used Travel Tracker for years and trusted the author that updates would be good. They are great and I am now using v1.3. Well worth the dollars as it is a great travel tool. All information at your finger tips on your present trip, future trips and past trips for record keeping. Flights , expenses, weather reports, currency and much more. Yes, first off version did have it problems but version 1.3 has never crashed for me. Approaching completeness the Palm version. When coordinated with iCal it will have arrives totally. Well worth the cost.
Great Program
MGII 4.0 stars Version: 1.00
I think this program is great. This is a must if you travel a lot. I have not had or seen any issues with the bugs that have been reported. I have had one issue with changing time zones and reported this issue. The company was quick to respond to my concerns and assured me they were working on a fix. I didn’t like all the contacts they added at first, but I have found them very useful so far.
much improved after update.
Jetset Jenna 4.0 stars Version: 1.01
I was initially disapointed with this app due to limited number of airports listed. When I emailed Silverware Software I got a quick response and an easy solution. I was using version 1.0 and there was already an update to 1.01. After the free upgrade it was easy to add airports using basic info from the web. I think a lot of the negative reviews have been based on problems with the original version. Please don't let these sway you from buying the new version.
Excellent app
mashinemusic 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I have had none of the crashes reported here, and find the program to be solid and useful. If you travel a lot and need a tool to organize flights, hotels, expenses, etc, then this is the best app on the iphone! Suggestions: add capability to store receipts via camera, import/export existing resevations to/from iCal, and export expenses to excel. I had an installation problem and the developer responded by email within 2 hours. Great support!
Travel Tracker is a Great Product
BMR528 5.0 stars Version: 1.01
This is the best travel product that I have used. It provides access to all of your travel information in one place. If there are problems or concerns the response from the support staff
After updates, it's a real winner
Austin816 5.0 stars Version: 1.31
Early reviews were negative due to bugs, but I find TT1.31 with iPhone 2.1 to be problem-free. If you just need to keep track of an occasional flight or meeting, there are surely simpler, cheaper ways to do that, but for someone who is on the road frequently, this is invaluable. The brief description on the iTunes site doesn't do the app justice; I suggest that you check out the more complete info on the developer website. Also, customer service is terrific: an email inquiry I sent was answered very promptly, politely, and efficiently. I'm completely satisfied.
Great travel tracking AND expense management
groukas 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
The current version (1.3) is *very* stable and functional. I had travel tracker on another platform, so I knew this would be great for tracking all my travel details on my new iPhone. The big surprise is that it's also got an extremely capable expense tracking capability. I bought iSpend separately but won't be using it. This application has become my constant companion as I travel (which I do a lot) and the current version is very stable. Knowing Silverware, they find and fix bugs quickly and are very interested in building in new features. This one's a total winner.
Useful
av99 4.0 stars Version: 1.01
This is a usefull application. i have been a user of TT for years, on Palm OS. iPhone version lacks an important feature - saving entries into the calendar database, but apparently this is because apple does not allow this interoperability. earlier versions of this app crashed a lot, but through user input and extremely responsive developer crashes are no longer a reality. online integration is excellent, and customer service is superb. if you have an issue with the app, email the developer, and he will solve it for you quickly. i give it 4 stars only because i expect it will develop further. it is expensive, but similar in price to the Palm version, and i have no complaints about the price.
Perfect.
Jtksnghsm 5.0 stars Version: 2.6
I hesitated buying an application for 9.99 (I am very very cheap) but this was DEFINITELY well spent! There are actually even more features than I had originally thought (They should be advertised on the description!!!) In addition to being able to download your trip data from TripIt, you can also create your own trips. There is even a list feature that allows you to make lists of what you need to pack, and other lists referring to things to do before the trip (stop mail, bill clients, etc.) that is completely customizable. It even lets you check them off as you get them done!! And you don't even have to pick all lists for each trip, you can pick and choose which lists refer to which trips. There is information about weather, there is information about my AAdvantage miles!! You can separate the trips into business pleasure, or whatever other groups you would like (also fully customizable). You can add activities, you can add expenses for the activities, you can add notes, meetings, anything you can think of.
