Three New App-Loaded iPhone Ads Hit Prime Time

It’s fall premiere season, and that means new shows. But it also means sparkly new ads to fill all those commercial breaks. New Apple ads for the iPhone provided pleasant relief for me yesterday from the tedium of the two-hour Heroes premiere. On a side note, the Castle premiere was pretty good. But back to those commercials. All three highlight popular and unique iPhone apps, some of which have already been featured in previous commercials. Let’s take a look at the apps featured in each commercial. The first ad is called Dine and features a smattering of apps covering a range of different topics, including travel, dining, working and shopping. Here’s a breakdown of the apps featured. TripCase (Free) — Flight tracking, info and travel itinerary management app. Quite a few not so great reviews on this one, but it is free. New York Subway 09 ($4.99) — Navigate the labyrinth Read More
Were you watching the two-hour season premiere of House last night on Fox? Maybe you were watching one of the other prime-time shows, but if you had your eyes on the screen during some of the commercial breaks, you probably saw at least one of the three new iPhone ads that hit the airwaves last night. Each of the new ads highlights a total of six apps, up from the three that were formerly the focus of the older ads. The first ad I saw last night, "Dine," looks at Zagat to Go, QuickOffice, TripCase, New York Subway 09, Epicurious Recipes & Shopping List, and Gap Style Mixer. [Note: all app links will open the iTunes App Store] I'm happy to see that Apple is maintaining focus on the number and variety of apps in the App Store, instead of resorting to the narcissistic, touchy-feely, celebrity-filled tripe that T-Mobile has been Read More

Fantastic App
Dr.Awesome 5.0 stars Version: 1
Keep me updated with real-time flight data. Social part has potential. Needs to include rental cars, hotels, taxis, etc. Overall, greate app.
Very Good App but needs....
Golpher45 4.0 stars Version: 1
It imported my trip very fast and accurate.... the demo on the web page shows it can add hotels but the app itself does not give you that option. Add rental cars, hotels etc, and you got a 5 star app
Needs work
Arkansas Hillbilly 3.0 stars Version: 1
Loaded all flight info OK. When I tryed to take a pic to email it locked my iPhone up. Needs a spot to put notes and other info such as confirmation number so it can be accessed quickly at airport. This app has great potential! But would not have been worth full price Glad it was 50% off.
Worked Great for me
Momongo 4.0 stars Version: 1
I bought it to tell me about changes to flights for a trip I was taking. But I found it also gave me the wait times for security and my baggage claim. I figured out how to let my husband "follow" the trip and he got the updates on his phone via email too. I found that I could enter any flight number into a "trip" and use the application to track flight of friends I had coming into town. Useful application - would be 5 star if you could enter hotel and car rental information directly and get similar type updates.
Very Limited functionality -- description is misleading -- trying to get a refund
nobozo 1.0 stars Version: 1
Understand that you can ONLY input a booked flight. You can't check schedules or do any kind of lookup at all. No way to input airline code, only scroll through a long list of airlines, and even this list is incomplete. Starts with US airlines so if you travel in the rest of the world you will have to scroll through US each time. No idea if all airports are covered since there is no lookup, but since airlines are missing airports are sure to be missing too. This is a bad beta, misrepresented as finished software. Avoid, avoid, avoid.
Fantastic App
Dr.Awesome 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Update: Review of v1.1
Excellent product and customer service!
Travel'in Mom 5.0 stars Version: 1
I was traveling during bad weather and it kept me informed of the inching delays and new gates. It also seemed to know the things I needed during the trip. It made calling the airline super easy and even the confirmation reminder message came in handy when I was checking in (and during those many calls to the airline!) :)
Worse than useless.
Harvey S. Cohen 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
I just bought Tripcase so I could follow my wife's flight home (Singapore Airlines #22, May 16). Tripcase said the Amex record locator was malformed, so I entered the flight manually. Tripcase says it departed 4:21 AM and landed 5:11 PM. The departure time is wrong by more than six hours, and the flight will not land until tomorrow. The scheduled landing tomorrow is 5:40 PM. So the information on Tripcase is worse than useless. I want my money back.
Useful app with great potential
Harvey S. Cohen 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
After I gave this a negative review, the vendor contacted me within hours. They have corrected most of the problems I encountered, and TripCase now gives correct flight data for difficult cases that cross the international dateline while departing and arriving on different dates. They still only recognize record locators for travel booked on Sabre, so people who use American Express travel service will have to enter the details of each flight, hotel, and car rental into the iPhone separately (OK but a bit tedious).
Free is Good, Better if it Worked
banished 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Good interface, but I input a trip 10 days ago, and since then one of the flights have changed. The other travel applications I'm running picked up on the change within 3 days of my travel agent's notification, but TripCase still thinks I'm on the old, now non-existant, flight. There's still a few weeks before the flight, but so far this is the least accurate of the travel apps.
A poor substitute for a paid app
NWPilot17 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
It is a remarkably unpleasant process to get started with TripCase. As a free app, I had a very low threshold for being pleased. TripCase is amazing in its non-intuitiveness and lack of basic flight-tracking features. I have tried many paid travel apps, many of which I have not liked and for which I have written negative reviews. For its flight feature, I can honestly say that TripCase is worse than the worst paid travel app I have used. The real pity is that users will acquire TripCase and think, "Hey, this is free, it's my flight tracker, and now I don't need anything else." Think again. TripCase is not worth its price even as a free app!
Version 1.1
afcdolphins 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
First flight I added TripCase could not find the flight. May work on some flights, but not all.
Great app for the frequent business traveler
TravelGuru 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
For a free app, very very useful. I travel about 75% and keeping up with an itinerary is difficult via email, as the link doesn't always work, and a paper itinerary gets lost by the time I'm through security. This keeps up with your flight, gate info, hotel address and phone #, etc. Nice to have it all in one place.
A poor substitute for a paid app
NWPilot17 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Some non-flight features of this app are fairly useful, but I found it unpleasant to get started with TripCase. As a free app, I had a very low threshold for being pleased. Awesome app!
cappaberra 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
The auto import feature works very well... This made it extremely easy to build up my trip. I have yet to leave on my trip, however if the app works as advertised, which I'm sure it does, it'll be a time saver!! Two features that I sent as feedback are coming in the next version (so I've been told): send itinerary and use the website to add/edit/remove trips.
Could Be Much Better, Could Be Much Worse
eBizwize 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
Main thing that it is missing is a notes section to add confirmation numbers and other critical data.
I love this app!!!!!
cruellag 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
It found my flight information immediately!! My friends and family are loving all the updates!! It's a great way to let everyone stay in touch while on vacation!! Grandparents can keep track of grandkids on their first trip with notes and pictures!!! I would pay any amount for this app!!!!!!!!
I would give more stars if...
sport luvr 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
A function to see where they are during the flight (in-flight feature). Also to be able to delete the flight info once it is done.
Nice!
My name was taken 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
This app is GREAT! 5 stars. If there was 1 thing I had to add is a train. Other then that, great!
A good start, hopeful for needed improvements
LLHB 3.0 stars Version: 1.1
I've only used it to lay out one trip so far, and for the most part it's helpful and useful to keep track of details. It did not locate a small hotel in Rome, but I wasn't completely surprised. The app's built-in feedback mechanism is nice, and the developers are very responsive. I'm looking forward to the next upgrade, as they have indicated that the issues I mentioned will be remedied. Namely, if you enter wrong info for, say, your hotel dates, or flight info, you can't make corrections...you're forced to delete the entire entry and then re-enter from the beginning.
You've got to be kidding
A Traveller 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Wretched. Non-intuitive and unhelpful. I had to enter all information multiple times, only to find this sabre application can't pick up an American Airlines locator code.
Maybe more trouble than it's worth??
RD Harris 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
I grabbed this app today thinking that this coud be good. Maybe it could be, but I don't see it yet. So I start by putting in the "record locator" number for my Delta flight to Detroit next Sunday. TripCase can't find it. OK, so in order to use this, I have to enter all my flight information manually. So, I buzz over and download Worldmate, and forward them my confirmation emails from Delta, Hampton Inn and Hertz. My itinerary is built like magic. Sorry TripCase, if you can't give me an easy way to get the data in, I'll never take the time to use it.
Useful App for Travelers
Raugustus 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I like this app. It helps me follow my travel itinerary. The app also has alternate travel flights. It also keeps track of hotel check-in and check out times and car rental times. It does need to add travel for rail and boats, but for a free app, it works.
Great app
Km 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Updated flight changes and even predicted the wait at seatac airport correctly. Would be worth a few bucks
I like it, I like it!
Lily933 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I like how the important details like the flight time and gate information are in large easy to read type.
love and hate
seanmcnulty 2.0 stars Version: 1.2
I like a lot about this app but am having REAL PIA getting it back into Online mode on a Touch. No amount of logout/login loops seems to kick it back into "online" mode. So many features here done right but no easy way to flip back on line when I am on a wifi network -you know like a app for a mobile platform might NEED. Other than that- it rocks, better info than airlines on flight delays, great updates on gates, just want to get more out of a locator number and NOTES field guys - seriously.
Fantastic
Bear_Hunter 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Dispite some negative reviews, I think this is a great app. Nice UI, provides all the information you would ever need (maps, contact numbers, ability to select alternate flights, gate info, etc, etc), you can edit entries with confirmation numbers, plus it's totally free. What more could you ask?
Not worth keeping
Sam&Co 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
Some non-flight features of this app are fairly useful, but I found it unpleasant to get started with TripCase.
Can't ask much more from a free travel app
Elvis Himselvis 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I grabbed this a few weeks ago, and love it. I docked one star because it couldn't pick up my United info (had no trouble with Continental). Otherwise, very cool.
Tripcase
Steve1sr50 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
Works every time. Find out before they do.
Very Useful!
Dajiu 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
I have lists like this already, but they are just .DOC files I print out and check off when going on a trip. Thus this is really helpful to me so that I don't have to deal with the papers anymore and I always have them. But I would like to see more features, overall a very solid and decent application.
Cool app, but needs some fine tuning
JEinFLL 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
The strength of this app is tracking flights. Frequently I've found the app has flight info that's more up to date than what's posted on the airport monitors or even at the departure gate. Also, the app provides contact information for airlines, hotels, etc. that are entered into one of your trip logs. However, there's no way to manually enter the name of a lodging establishment if it's not in the app's database. Big hotel chains and the names of some smaller lodging places are in the database, but some B&B's, etc. that I stay in aren't recognized, so lodging information (such as confirmation number) can't be entered for that trip. There's also no way to edit flight dates after a flight leg has been accepted into a trip itinerary. After a flight leg has been entered and accepted, only the confirmation code can be updated. Finally, the app requires repeatedly entering the same dates during a trip. The default for all requested dates is always "today's date".
Excellent
Ron43E 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I just used this program for a week and a half trip to Michigan. Four airline connections and several hotels. It kept them all and did an excellent job. Hats off to the developer for an very good travel app.
please update again
sport luvr 3.0 stars Version: 1.3
There needs to be a function to see where they are during the flight (in-flight feature). Also I was trying to add a flight yesterday I had the Airline, Flight Number, Date, and Confirmation Number and I entered everything in but it came back telling me that there were No Flights found. This app will become useless if it won't allow me to add flights especially when I have the information in front of me as to airline, date, times, conf. number, etc. please update
Good Start, needs more work
BK007 2.0 stars Version: 1.3
Excellent start and has a lot of great features! However there is a big problem
Seems to give me free stuff others charge for
Trixygirl 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I liked this app a lot! It gave me stuff some of the other apps tried to charge me for like updates to my flight times and gates. I also liked the messages about where my baggage claim was and whether my hotel had a shuttle (I didn't know I had to call them to get picked up!).
Useful App for Travelers
Raugustus 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I like this app. It helps me follow my travel itinerary. The app also has alternate travel flights. It also keeps track of hotel check-in and check out times and car rental times. The app now has push notification, which is really useful. No wonder apple used this app in a commercial. I recommend this app for anyone.
Nice App
Trinka2 3.0 stars Version: 1.3
Departure gate was updated on the app before the ticket agent knew our departure gate!
Great travel accessory
zakasnak 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
I didn't have this app during my last revel stint, but it would've been extremely helpful. I would like to see a check-in online option added. This could eliminate me taking my laptop on trips (not really), but it would be a nice feature.
Awesome Application
2HoundsNAMini 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
So far so good. Some of the bad reviews are unjustified. If most of the people would slow down and read what they are doing it would probably work as intended. I had no issues installing or validating my email because I typed it in correctly. A nice addition would be looking for hotels in a city or near an airport should you get stranded. As well as Amtrak schedules. Another cool feature would be for it to monitor flights around your scheduled flight for cancellations so you know to be sure to arrive early so you don't run a risk of getting bumped.
Good free app
Dmtalon 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
Only suggestion I can think of is a way to manually move to the next leg of your trip. During a layover I ended up using the flight monitor in the airport before TripCase changed to my next leg. It was cool to see the app update the fact that we landed early and notified via email the person I subscribed for updates. My company uses CARLSON WAGONLIT travel, and they use Virtually There. Not sure which of them publish my itinerary, but with the confirmation number and my last name, poof my data was downloaded to the app.
Awesome App!!
Base942 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
Great app!! Intergrates seamlessly with AMEX travel, just enter the Sabre locator and it pulls your complete iternery for the trip!!
Does import my itinerary!
Riversen 1.0 stars Version: 1.3
Apparrently, Travelport is not supported! It's like they aren't one of the big ones! :-) This is a bummer, as it did find my travel. Deleted it as a result and after much frustration.
it doesn't recognize an AA locator?!
applebyte 1.0 stars Version: 1.3
Sorry this needs help, and the manual input is a turn-off. I suggest everyone try TripIt instead.
IMPRESSIVE!!!!!!! READ WHY!
happyone01 5.0 stars Version: 1.3
I was waiting for my flight to when I received an email as well as an instant message from TripCase informing me the plane had an estimated delay of 20 minutes. This was 30 minutes before we were scheduled to take off. No one else around me seemed to know and the airline hadn't let us in on any changes. Our flight was indeed 20 minutes late in departing. Along with all the other extra's! VERY IMPRESSIVE!
great app!
IsaacNM 4.0 stars Version: 1.3
For those who have many business trips or incoming guests, helps you track all the flight info as well as updates. Doesn't do much beyond that!
Great app
Drbcru 5.0 stars Version: 2.5
Used this & TripIt on last trip. This won hands down. Came w/ features that u have to upgrade to use on the other one. All tools easy to use
Love it!
Auntie.Mimi 5.0 stars Version: 2.5
Always provides timely updates.
Great Travel App
Mat Banke 4.0 stars Version: 2.5
Been using it for about 18 months now and it has proven itself to be very handy in keeping me updated in my travel status. I even had one instance where it updated me on a gate change before it was updated on the flight board!
Major flaws which can be fixed
James ODonnell 2.0 stars Version: 2.5
Tripcase overall is my favorite travel organizer, but it has some flaws that can really hurt the overall experience.1. They need to have better processing of importing reservations. I have emailed many reservations only to find that the date is wrong when added to tripcase.2. When traveling, I usually bring my iPad. Tripcase is NOT currently iPad friendly, making it an verbally pore experience.
Great app but where's the HD version?
Bruster999 4.0 stars Version: 2.5
I travel twice a week and use this app almost every time. Occasionally it won't update so having a manual update would be nice. Also, I can't figure out how to get out of the 'combine Trips' screen without logging out.A Great app though. Well worth the money. Please don't increase the price on the HD version like SOME apps are.
Great app
Spanzl 5.0 stars Version: 2.5
This app really help me with my trip this Christmas. Right when I landed and turned my phone on I had an email waiting telling me that my connecting flight was delayed so in stead of rushing to the next gate I know I had time to kill
Great app!!
Jeffrey Simonds 4.0 stars Version: 2.5
I've used this app on many trips. Can be a bit slow to update sometimes but overall it's a great way to organize your trip and get instant info like phone numbers for hotel and rental car. I would like to see the app pull up driving directions utilizing the iPhone map program instead of google.
Excellent travel app!
Florida geek 4.0 stars Version: 2.5
I love this app and have been using it for over a year. The recent upgrade is awesome allowing users to combine trips in the app rather than having to logon to the website. The pro version is not priced right. It should be a one time charge. Who is going to pay a monthly subscription? Not me! I would pay a nominal one time fee but not monthly - no way. This app has saved me over and over. Recently, my outbound flight for a critical meeting was canceled. TripCase notified me right away and I was able to get a seat on the next flight out an hour later and made my meeting. When I got to the airport, the line was a mile long with people from the canceled flight trying to get on my new flight. It was overbooked by then. I flew out and those without TripCase didn't find out about their canceled flight until they got to the airport. They were out of luck. Love TripCase!!!!! Notifies my wife, assistant, secretary and staff re my arrivals and departures plus any delays. Excellent app!
Awesome app for travel
Santosh G 5.0 stars Version: 2.5
My single most favorite app when it comes to keeping track of my flights, hotel reservations and traffic update on the move. Good job guys. I like your recent feature of combining trips - this feature helps to import my individual Itinerary and merge them to one trip. Also your notification about gate change information for connecting flights is so useful that I don't bother flight attendants anymore where to head next. You rock, thanks.
Universal app please

Would be great if it was universal.
