iPhone Twitter app roundup
Calendar16 Thu, 20 May 2010 11:36:16 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Thursday, May 20, 2010 | So you have an iPhone and you use Twitter, but with the plethora of Twitter applications available in the App Store (including one that just went official), which do you chose? TiPb is here to help with a Twitter app roundup! Now this is not your typical top 5 or top 10 must-have, best Twitter app list. This is about options and alternatives, and Ally, Leanna, and guest writer Alli Flowers have chosen the following 12 to review and help narrow your search: To see what we had to say, follow us after the break! Previously known as Tweetie, Twitter for iPhone [Free - iTunes link] is the official Twitter application from Twitter. It is full featured and easy to use. Swiping a tweet will get you reply options, and tapping the tweet will allow you to view attached photos or url’s. The Read More
When you think about what the best iPad-optimized app would be, what’s the first thing that comes to mind?  A word processing app? A game? A comic book reader?  What about Twitter apps?  Yes, Twitter apps!  Tweetdeck looks and works wonderfully on my MacBook’s 13.3″ screen, allowing me to be the best Twitterer I can possibly be.  Just imagine that kind of power on an even more portable device, the iPad.  But none of the major iPhone Twitter app developers have committed to the iPad quite yet, including Tweetdeck.  That is until now. In our quest to track down every potential iPad app developer, we decided to shoot an email to Gedeon Maheux of the Iconfactory in hopes of getting some juicy details regarding Twitterrific for the iPad.  Although we didn’t come away with any screenshots or specific information, we were able to confirm that they are indeed working on an Read More
Tweetie II-Update: Retweet, Geo-Position und Listen
Calendar16 Mon, 30 Nov 2009 10:19:04 UTC +00:00

It's uncanny. When known software gets repackaged for iPhones and iPod Touches and passes through the hallowed gates of the App Store, something happens: Almost invariably, it gets cheaper. Waaay cheaper. Good right? Well, not always. The App Store is a strange new place for developers. Veterans and newcomers engage in bareknuckle combat, driving prices down to levels people wouldn't have imagined charging just a few years ago. Margins drop to razor-thin levels while customers expect apps to get cheaper and cheaper, but with ever increasing quality and depth. For developers, for other software platforms and potentially for the increasingly fickle customers themselves, it's uncharted, and treacherous, territory. But the most bizarre thing of all is—in an effort to keep people in the App Store, and to prevent competitors from getting a toehold in the mobile app business—Apple's charting a course straight into it. "The App Store is a very competitive Read More
Boxcar Reminds Us It’s Columbus Day With A Sale
Calendar16 Mon, 12 Oct 2009 13:57:34 UTC +00:00
Did you know today was Columbus Day?  I know I didn’t until I stumbled upon Boxcar‘s Columbus Day sale. Boxcar is a push-enabled Twitter, Facebook, and email app, at least in a sense.  It isn’t meant to replace any of your favorite apps, it just makes them more useful with Push Notifications.  Boxcar, when it was first released, was able to send you Push Notifications when you received mentions and direct messages via Twitter, but now it is even more powerful with the ability to send Push Notifications for Twitter trends and searches, Facebook notifications and messages, and emails. Boxcar now supports loads of different Twitter apps, including Twittelator, Tweetie, Tweetie 2, Twitterrific, Echofon, SimplyTweet, and many more.  And, of course, it supports the Facebook iPhone app, so no matter which service you choose to use, Boxcar should be able to open it. Boxcar is normally priced at $2.99, but today and Read More
The Iconfactory really takes their time developing iPhone and iPod touch apps to ensure that your time spent with them is as enjoyable as possible. If that wasn’t apparent before with their other two available iPhone apps, Twitterrific and Frenzic, then their new game Ramp Champ should certainly drive this concept home. Ramp Champ is a highly polished iPhone and iPod touch version of skee ball.  This isn’t just any old skee ball game however, The Iconfactory has really put their own unique touch on Ramp Champ. Ramp Champ features touch and flick gameplay that is simple to learn but difficult enough to keep you coming back for more.  To launch a ball, simply flick your finger form the bottom of the screen towards the top.  Your finger’s speed and direction will determine how fast and in what direction your ball will go.  The game contains four built-in ramps, tons of goals, trophies, Read More
The Iconfactory's 'Ramp Champ' Rolls into the App Store
Calendar16 Tue, 25 Aug 2009 04:26:00 UTC +00:00
The Iconfactory was launched back in 1996 as a repository for icon packs as well as software for creating and using icons. Since then, they've been responsible for the creation of two great iPhone apps, Frenzic [$2.99], a fast-paced puzzle game and Twitteriffic [$3.99 / Free], one of the original premium Twitter clients available on the App Store. Their latest game, Ramp Champ [App Store] takes the arcade game of skee ball, shrinks it down to the iPhone screen, and applies the same thick layer of highly stylized graphical work seen in all the other Iconfactory products. Included in the initial release of Ramp Champ are four different virtual skee ball machines. Clown Town has a carnival theme, Breakwater Bay is underwater, Space Swarm tips its hat at Space Invaders, and The Icon Garden pays homage to Iconfactory's roots in icon design. Controls are simple and shares the same strangely compelling Read More
Twitterrific Update Brings Bags of New Stuff
Calendar16 Mon, 24 Aug 2009 13:00:18 UTC +00:00
I’m fickle, always switching allegiances to Twitter apps. I’ve been jumping between Tweetie and SimplyTweet for months. Between them, they meet all my tweeting needs. But, long before they existed, there was Twitterrific. It’s been installed on every one of my iPhones, but rarely used. That’s about to change. Made by Mac stalwart Iconfactory, Twitterrific is the grandfather of iPhone Twitter apps, launched in January 2007 when Twitter was still young, and winning plaudits for its beautiful UI. The latest update, version 2.1, is as gorgeous as ever. Preserving its beauty while squeezing in more features must’ve been painfully challenging, but somehow the dev team at Iconfactory managed to do it. 2.1 brings the usual stability and bug fixes you’d expect. To choose just one notable fix: the significant speed improvement in typing and deleting – on its own – makes this feel like an all-new application. But read on, there’s Read More

Twitter Hit By Denial-Of-Service Attack
Calendar16 Thu, 06 Aug 2009 16:29:59 UTC +00:00
Many of you may have noticed that your Tweeties, Twittelators, and Twitterrifics just weren’t working properly this morning.  Well, it wasn’t just you.  Twitter has confirmed via their blog that they have been hit by a denial-of-service attack, rendering the site unavailable for a couple of hours. Denial-of-service attacks come in many shapes and sizes, but the general idea is to prevent a high-profile sites or services from working properly, and in this case that site is Twitter.  Twitter is back up and running as we speak, and the company has stated that they intend to continue to defend against the attacks and later investigate the cause. According to CNN, this attack is not related to the recent incident where a hacker stole internal documents from the site. Keep watching the Twitter blogfor more updates and details.  Hang in their tweeps! Read More

I switched and I have a Twitter client of my own!
Justin Williams 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I developed a fairly popular Twitter client for the iPhone in the old 1.0 days (PocketTweets), but I always longed for something like Twitterrific on my phone. Something with a native look and feel that made it quick and painless to see tweets. Now that it is here, I'm glad that I can retire my trusty Web application and have a much better user experience.
Why I bought this
Ctrl-Z 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Tried the free version. Liked it a lot. And I totally appreciate that it wasn't crippled; that the ads weren't invasive. These are reasons some are listing not to buy, but they're thinking about it backwards. Did I need the premium version? Of course not -- I didn't even need the free one. But it's not about what I can get away with. It's about supporting the artists and developers who make my life a little better, so they can afford to keep doing that for me. It's no less self-serving than the other way, believe me. But, I think, ultimately more productive.

AcaBen 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
The Iconfactory has a hit here. If you use Twitter, you need the Premium version of this app, hands down. The UI looks better than just about any other app out there, and built-in hints and tips make its complex functionality seem simple and intuitive, even the first time you use it.
No Longer [REDACTED]
jough 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Bar none this is the finest quality iPhone app in the premier class. Great web browser integration, innovative help system, and gorgeous UI make for my favourite Twitter client on any platform. The only downsides are that it's a little slow to launch, and scrolling feels sluggish and choppy.
Close, but not quite!
FallingBrick 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Twitterrific Premium is SOOOO close to being a great product. The UI is top notch! The hints make learning the product a snap!
The Gold Standard for iPhone Apps
Garrett Dimon 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Not only is Twitteriffic incredibly useful and easy to use, but it represents the quality that other iPhone apps should aspire to. The interface is natural, intuitive, and beautiful. It also offers succinct tips to help you get acclimated to the app as you go along. I can only hope that we see more applications of this quality.
If only this horrific application actually worked!
MobileKiwi 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
My title says it all! Not only does it hardly ever work, when it DOES work it only does 10% or less of what it's supposed to. Photos will randomly turn sideways when uploaded, not to be changed. If you happen to want to change your profile pic it wont immediately update your icon on previous posts - instead it picks them out, randomly. One more of your old posts will have the new icon, and yet the rest of them remain stubbornly on the original icon. The website goes down for "an hour" (which turns out to be 6+).
Awesome!
cyberpunk 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am impressed. Download was fast, set up easy and the app looks great on my iPhone. 10/10
Love the app, dislike the theme
Like the app idea 4.0 stars Version: 1.1.1
I paid for this mostly to support the developers. I didn't mind the ads in the free version. However I had hoped that the light theme that came with the pay version would be a bit better. The designers at iconfactory do such good work; the light theme was a big disappointment.
First app I bought for the iPhone
reppepreppep 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have been waiting for Twitteriffic/iPhone for a long time, and I'm delighted with it.
Love it!
MikeInBoston 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is one of my favorite applications on my iPhone. It does everything I need Twitter to do for me. It makes tweeting easy and reading my friends' timelines a breeze.
People need to chill...
Amanda-17 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.2
Twitterrific stated that there was a problem & they had a fix. It isn't their fault that it took a few days for Apple to get the update in. I can't believe how impatient people are. You CAN go a few days without Twitter. I love this app. The best Twitter app i ever used & ever will use.
Bad

Stopped working two days ago. No update yet. Can we get a refund? I bet not. Don't buy this - save your money. No support.
Do not buy
Logic00 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
This app is broken and is not working for anyone.
Want my money back
Powdertothepeople 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I paid almost four dollars for an app that won't even work. I want my money back. WTF!
One of the first apps I downloaded
Gage Gecko 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Good little app. I have no real complaints and enjoy using it. With that said I would like to see some additional features. Tabs to display DM's and Replies separately for starters. Minor quibbles. Very happy with the app all around.
Losing the race
812studio 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love the Iconfactory. And I have been purchasing their products for years. Although I initially enjoyed this ap, I recently tried out the competing ap called Twittelator Pro, and I find it to be a much better ap. Twittelator allows you to run multiple accounts, and adds a whole bunch of necessary functionality that Twitterrific does not (and it's cheaper). I would happily and faithfully switch back to Twitterrific once they make these updates. Until then Twittelator is winning the race...hands down.
Twitterrific 2 is the little blue bird that could
MacGeek Pro 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
I bought Twitterrific Premium on day 1 of the App Store, right after I got my iPhone 3G up and running. Back then, it was the best Twitter app on the iPhone OS and remained that way for quite some time. However, around late February I did find myself wanting more, and switched to Tweetie for it's advanced capabilities. I never did feel at home on Tweetie, though.
El Mejor
Area809 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Antes usaba la gratis pero esta les quedo tan biem que termine comprandola. Excelente Trabajo.
Great job! UI is beautiful, missing two key features
getjams 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I love this update! I use Tweetie and Twittelator Pro but this may unseat them! The new UI is beautiful and the amount of customization you can do is great! Love the single, double, and triple tap options - but it needs a few more options within that like retweet or reply. Also, would be nice to be able to click Followers or Following within the user profile screen(which is really well done) to be able to see their list of Followers or who they Follow. Also, on the main screen (which is also well designed), a link to go to any user by typing in their name would be great. But so far no Twitter iPhone app has every feature which is why I have many of them. But I really love this and highly recommend it. Well worth the $4 to support these great developers!
Paid version giving login errors with correct login info.
mmogrrrl 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
The free version works fine, but the pay version gives me an invalid login error when I try to login to twitter. Yes, I even logged out of twitter on my PC and logged back in to make sure I'm using the correct password, and even re-entered the password to twitteriffic multiple times. I don't understand why the free version works perfectly for me, but this one appears to be a bomb. I was also upset that their website didn't seem to have any sort of support in the form of actually contacting someone, so all I could do is tweet @twitterrific that I was upset for having paid $5 for something I can't use. In any case, I'm going back to the free Twitterrific, because that one at least works. I just wish I could get my money back for the paid version. :/
Some clarification
kweishaupt 5.0 stars Version: 2.0.2
I saw a bunch of one star reviews for this app and needed to make some things clear. The 'twitpocolypse' was caused by Twitter growing (or scaling) too fast for the foundation it was built on. It wasn't ready to handle such widespread adoption. Twitter apps need to be updated to support the changes made by Twitter to allow the service to keep on growing.
Won't update
The Ploogle 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
I can't get any tweets anymore. I don't get this problem from TwitterFon or their website. It was great while it lasted, but this is inexcusable how long they're taking to fix the patch. It's been broken for about 3 days now with no word of an update in the app description or their website.
Unacceptable
Doombot! 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
No excuse for not fixing this in time. Even if a patch is waiting, it's too late.
Love my iphone
3 great boys 1.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
This IS ridiculous!!--the lesser expensive twitter apps functioned straight thru twitacopolyps--why can't the iconfscyory fix this problem--after they soaked us all for our money..come on guys --get busy and fix the freaking problem!!!!!!
