Amazon has had their Android Appstore with the free app of the day, however it looks like they have kicked off a new promotional offering dubbed Geek Week. The Geek Week promotion includes a select group of apps that appear to have a discount of 50 percent or greater. And sure, 50 percent off on a $2 app may not be all that exciting for everyone, however there are some more expensive apps on the list including EasyTether and Root Explorer which normally sell for $9.99 and $3.99 respectively. As to the discount, EasyTether is selling for $4.99 and Root Explorer is selling for $0.99. That being said, in total there are eight apps included in the Geek Week promotion and they break down as follows; All said and done, we realize that all of these apps may not be for every user, especially the SetCPU app which is for users Read More
Android App Review Update: Wave Launcher | Android Central
Calendar16 Fri, 26 Aug 2011 16:40:53 UTC +00:00
If you're a long-time reader of Android Central, you might remember when Phil reviewed Wave Launcher back in March.  Recently, the developer updated the application to version 1.8 which added a lot of new functionality, enough that we wanted to revisit the application as well as introduce it to potentially new users. Wave Launcher is an application that works in addition to your existing launcher (be that stock, ADW, LauncherPro, or something else).  You activate it by performing a gesture near the edge of your screen, and a "wave" pops up, which gives you access to a customizable application list. You can put apps, shortcuts, or folders on this list and they all became just a swipe away.  While the launcher is limited to 12 icons, you can put up to 10 apps or shortcuts into each folder, potentially allowing up to 120 total shortcuts.  Last week, the developers pushed out Read More

The Wave Launcher Android App  by MobileMerit app is a motion activated shortcut bar that appears in the middle of your screen. Wave launcher is a gesture based item in which you start swiping at the very bottom of the screen and drag all the way to the middle of the screen in order to see the wave shortcut toolbar. In here you can assign the different shortcuts that you want to assign to the wave bar. There are many options available within the wave launcher including a very important option to calibrate the screen to ensure that the app works properly. When you open up the app the tutorial will walk you through on how to use the wave launcher and how to get it setup. There are several options available within the setup screen such as how to create custom icons if you use custom icons in your launcher. Read More
With Google I/O this week, there was a noticeable focus on productivity and phone navigation apps, all enhancing the Android experience. The yearly event was also an opportunity for Google to flex its muscles, revealing a new Music app that takes the personal cloud to the next level. The combined efforts of Google as a platform owner, and developers in the Android Market, make Android devices all the more competitive with Apple iPhones, and this week’s updates bring hope of Android’s tablet potential, perhaps one day toppling the iPad reign. Google I/O, the yearly event for innovative products and services, took place this week in San Francisco, giving the search giant a fine platform for launching a highly anticipated app for music. Dubbed Music Beta, the app is a cloud-based service that grants you instant access to your personal music collection from any connected Android device. The good thing about the Read More

Wave Launcher is a unique, gesture-enabled, quick action-bar for Android. It resembles a well-known and loved feature on WebOS phones like the Palm-Pre and works system-wide. There are a number of apps that accomplish the same thing. Basically it is a shortcut to your most used or favorite apps. You can free up space from your home screens because you can select from up to 12 of your favorite apps to be in the launcher. Wave Launcher is enabled by swiping your finger from the bottom of your screen towards the middle. The wave will appear and you will see the icons of your selected apps. You then move your finger from right to left to select the app you would like to run. As you move your finger right or left it resembles a wave. I think Wave Launcher is very effective and runs smoothly. One of the biggest pros Read More
SocialCam: This app offers you an easy way to share videos with your friends. With the app, you can record, tag and share your videos in addition to browsing, liking and commenting on those belonging to friends. Kazaa: Instead of launching in the official app stores, Kazaa made its music subscription service available on mobile via www.kazaa.com. The decision was made primarily to thumb its nose at Apple, because of the company's "recent announcement that it will now keep 30% of revenue generated by new subscriptions and media purchases," says Zazaa. Color: At launch, this location-based photo sharing app was widely denounced by reviewers who weren't pleased with the user experience (but who were likely just expecting more given the outrageous $41 million in funding its creators received). Curious what all the fuss was about? Color is free for iPhone and Android. (Our coverage) QuickCam: A seriously fast iPhone camera app Read More
Hang Ten With the Wave Launcher Android App
Calendar16 Mon, 14 Mar 2011 14:15:57 UTC +00:00
Android phone users can now ride the wave to any of their favorite apps at any time with the Wave Launcher. It’s an action bar that can be accessed from the home screen or within any app, by dragging up the wave from the very bottom of the screen. It’s all a one-touch effort: you drag up the wave, slide your finger left or right to find the app you’re looking for, and lift your finger to select the app. It’s quick and easy to use, and the constant accessibility without needing to leave the current app is a nice, efficient feature. The Wave Launcher is available now from the Android Market for $0.99. Read More

New Android App Brings Best Of webOS Gesture Features

The app, called Wave Launcher, allows you to access predefined apps via a gesture irregardless of what application you in. Check out the press release below for the full details. Android Quick-App: Wave Launcher | Android Central

It's been a little while since we've seen any webOS aping on Android. And now we have Wave Launcher, which brings the webOS wave launcher (thus the name) feature to Android. It's pretty slick. Touch the bottom of the screen (which would be the gesture area on a webOS phone), wait for the vibration and drag up, and the ribbon appears. You can attach any five apps of your choosing. If you're using a third-party launcher, you could turn off the launcher dock and just use Wave Launcher. Or use them both. And it works while apps are open, too. Pretty handy, actually, and it's available in the Android Market for a mere 99 cents. We've got video of it and action, as well as download links, after the break. Thanks, Ray! Read More

HP's earnings were brutal this past quarter, sure. In response, new CEO Meg Whitman's clarion call to investors, repeated over and over again? We need to be more clear. We need to let you know what's going on. Just not... right... now. For all of Whitman's posturing about the need to tell us what's in store for HP, she glossed right over the company's biggest question mark: the fate of webOS. Honestly, at this point? Just take it behind the barn and shoot it. Or sell it to someone who cares.More » Read More

Used it for all of 10 minutes. Very awkward to use. Anything you do near the bottom edge of the screen triggers it. Couldnt close notification tray.

Absolutely awesome! Best of WebOS on android! Works well but is a little laggy (ZTE Blade). And it interferes with the keyboard and notification bar.

Great launch utility notjust 4 former webOS users! While this is similar to the webOS draggable launcher, it is 10 times more configurable and even works better. Very well thought out, and makes switching between apps (open or closed) MUCH faster and easier than hitting home, searching for the icon, or even hitting home twice then clicking on one of the recent apps.
