WeatherBug for iPhone gets new GUI and adds features
Calendar16 Fri, 10 Feb 2012 23:00:00 UTC +00:00
There are many weather apps for the iPhone, but I'm a frequent user of the free WeatherBug app. The free version was recently updated to version 2.0 with a completely new GUI and added features such as automatic updating of weather data at your current location, along with pollen and UV data for the sun. The app has moved its settings inside the app itself, which is a plus compared to the way it was done before using system preferences. WeatherBug still has detailed and layered weather maps and a collection of local cameras so you can actually see the current weather, not just instrument readings. You can set multiple locations and check the weather at vacation destinations or just see if Mom is freezing in upstate New York. WeatherBug will alert you to severe weather at or near your location. I found the app to be stable and easy to Read More
10 Beautiful and Usable iPhone and iPad Interfaces

Mobile devices like the iPhone and the iPad have been a real springboard for designers and developers. Because we can now literally have our computers in our pockets, our favorite applications and websites and services can now come with us. However, when designing for mobile devices, it’s important to focus on the size and resolution of the device’s screen, as well as how the user interacts with the device. You can make a really beautiful looking application that ultimately fails because it is difficult for the user to use and isn’t optimized for a touch screen. Sometimes the best way to get started thinking about application design is to look at what others have already produced. For your inspiration, here are 10 iPhone and iPad apps that have both beautiful and Read More
A tale of two iPad weather apps
Calendar16 Wed, 26 May 2010 17:00:00 UTC +00:00
Since Apple stripped the iPhone weather app from the iPad, it left the door open for 3rd parties to do their thing. They've done just that, and I'd like to spotlight two apps that come at weather from very different places. We've looked briefly at both these apps. Our Victor Agreda Jr. used and liked WeatherBug Elite, and Erica Sadun took a quick look at Weather HD in April. Let's start with WeatherBug Elite for iPad and look more closely. The app is free, and has a compelling display on the iPad screen. It is the more conventional app of the two, with radar and cloud cover overlays, animation, severe weather alerts from the National Weather Service, Extended 7 day and hourly forecasts, and webcams for most locations that show you a semi-live view of the current weather. You can save multiple locations, and get to them with a tap. As Read More
Wi-Fi Edition: Can An iPad Replace Your iPhone?
Calendar16 Thu, 08 Apr 2010 21:52:06 UTC +00:00
Posted 04/08/2010 at 1:52pm | by J.R. Bookwalter A recent survey of new iPad owners sounding off on Twitter revealed that a whopping 26 percent were unhappy about the fact that the device couldn’t replace their iPhone. That got us thinking: What would it be like to spend a day with only the iPad? With that challenge in mind, we (mostly) stuck our trusty iPhone 3GS away for a full day and “made do” with only the Wi-Fi model of iPad. As it turns out, it’s not as difficult as you might expect. We have yet to find any iPhone apps that don’t also run on the iPad -- even seemingly more complex ones such as SlingPlayer Mobile or Skype work just fine -- so most of the iPhone functionality can already be duplicated just by installing the same apps you already use. It’s Not a Phone, Silly The biggest trick Read More

Weather on crack!

Wow, this app is so much fun. You feel like Jack Bauer checking the weather. What a fantastically written app. Good job!!
paid full price and now free?
five4gena 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I paid full price for this app less than 12 hours ago and now it's free? Seems a bit wrong.....one star for that. Have yet to use the app since the ipad doesn't arrive until tomorrow.
Awesome
Dwd3885 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Looks great...To the poster who bought the $5 app. DON'T BUY AN APP FOR A PRODUCT YOU DON'T HAVE!
Totally Ripped Off!
Stoplight 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Bought this app for $4.99 on Thursday night. On Friday morning it was reduced to $.99. By Friday afternoon it was free. Come on, give us who bought this early a refund.
Pricing Confusion
Jkat 3.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I purchased this app before my iPad even got here for $4.99 and today the price decreased by 80%. It seems unfair, but the app still looks neat.
BEWARE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Live4NYY 1.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
It amazes me that they were able to come out with an iPad app before its release date considering they NEVER do any work on their iPhone/iPod apps. I just want people who are not familiar with Weatherbug's app development to be aware that they RARELY do any updates and when they do it doesn't really justify them charging any money whatsoever. I urge everyone to leave reviews if there are any problems with it as to encourage the developers to consistently pay attention to the customers.
Message from WeatherBug: For Those Who Paid Full Price
Nathan Parker 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I work for WeatherBug and have been discussing this with our staff. For those of you who paid full price for the app, if you could email a PDF copy of your iTunes Store receipt or a screenshot of your iTunes Purchases showing you paid full price for the app to backyard[at]weatherbug.com, we will send your information over to our VP/CTO who will work out something with you to make this issue right. We are sorry for those who feel like they've been bitten by the early adopter bug, and we wish to make it right to those who were affected by this. In addition, for those saying we rarely update our iPhone app and don't listen to consumers, please be advised that we are working hard to update our iPhone app and will be adding MAJOR updates to it this year. I've personally been talking with our CTO on it, and it's definitely a priority in the company. We've had so many huge projects going on recently and we have a ton of new stuff we're rolling out this year, so just be patient and you'll love the results! Thanks! Nathan P, WeatherBug
Awesome!
Darman34 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Have had WeatherBug on all my iTouches and IPhones, but this app blows them all the others away! They always had the best local weather data, but now the details are really accessible...and the map layer functions are amazing. Great app...like that I got it for free, but I would be happy to pay for it!
Great weather tool
Jojo911 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
This app is great. The interface on the iPad is better than the iPhone/iPod one. I feel the need to point out two things to all these moronic one star reviews. First of all it's not the developers fault that you bought this if you don't own an iPad, it's clearly sated it's for iPad. Second prices change people, that's life.
App makes weather a great conversation piece!
Aaron Seaman 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I actually did buy this app for my ipod touch about a month or so ago. I was thrilled when I saw it was available for the iPad. If it is a great app, why complain that you paid for it? It was worth $5 dollars when you bought it. I would have gladly paid $5 if the price hadn't been dropped.
free is good
nate05032009 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
i paid for this app on the iphone and now its free on the ipad. this is the opposite trend i see with other developers who bump up the price 3x-5x.
Looks interesting...
NoHypeHere 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Wasn't it the PRO version that was a paid app? I thought I saw that, but could be wrong.
Great App! Quit whining!!
JTL 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
This version is spectacular, especially the uses of the larger screen real estate. As for those who paid for this (or ANY) app before they had the hardware to run it on, thanks for paying my share! And realize that this is probably a one day special like so many other great apps I have gotten for free and I wouldn't be surprised to see the price back at $4.99 very soon
What a cool app
Mr. TeQ 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
It's well done and free. People are just mad they paid for it before pricing was settled prior to launch.
Great App
RAWbert (North Hollywood) 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
A ton of features and it's free. Nice.
Similar to iPhone / Touch Version
Aardvark1917 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Tap current conditions or forecast to enlarge the panel or obtain a detailed view, respectively; otherwise, the program is identical to the smaller platform version, only bigger.
Works okay
PremiereApps 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I'll update after a bit more use but so far so good - seems to work just fine.
Amazing
Jbman2 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
This app is simply amazing. The interface is beautiful and it works great. I have tested this app on the iPad.
Paid full price but love it anyway!
vinny2cubes 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I too bought this the day before the iPad came out. I don't care if it's free now, you guys didn't care what the price was when you bought it, did you? Jeez, at least they bucked the trend of other app devs that jack the price up. This is a gorgeous weather application. Beautiful graphics and animation. Fairly fast and everything is right on the main screen, including little webcam videos. You get to choose which weather station in the area of interest is closest to your desired location. I wish future updates would give you more station options, though. Atlanta, for example, doesn't give you the Hartsfield airport weather. I would assume that almost every city of any size would have an airport weather station.
Great port to ipad
markbyrn 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Excellent ipad version of Weatherbug and makes full use of the larger screen real estate. So far, no bugs in the Weatherbug app.
Mixed feelings
Kavic 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
The gripe - I bought the app full price, $4.99 Friday night. My own fault for...I dunno...being excited about the iPad? Why not just start free? I'll have trouble trusting the publisher in the future. But that is just sour grapes. The good - Grab this app while it is free! What I like most is the ability to scale the map to the distance you want to see. Zoom in for neighborhood views, or zoom way out for a regional view. And choose between different data types, like humidity, temperature, radar...nicely done! Plus there is the forecast by day and hourly. Lots of data immediately available and presented attractively. The bad - No way to toggle off views you don't want to see. I don't much care for cameras, and would like to put another widget in its place. In portrait mode I would like to see Forecast and Hourly Forecast, but Camera takes up a slot. Also, the widgets are set in place when in focus. I would like to move them around to see the map in the background. I feel like I have to always view and then immediately remove focus before looking back at the map. Watching a radar loop while having Conditions drug to a corner would be nice during a severe storm. Even with the bad points this is the best weather app I have used. I did not prefer the WeatherBug iphone app but the iPad app is great!
A beautiful app
djzapp 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Looks great, camera quality isn't great but that's not what I got the app for. Everything on one page and nicely laid out. Great job!!
Great!!!
wind_racer 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Fantastic iPad app. Better than the Weather Channel app. I am converted!!
Love it!
R L John 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Best weather app so far. Exactly the details I'm looking for.
Wonderful App (especially for free)
kc! Bradshaw 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
Best app I have used out of the free ones. Own the Elite Weatherbug for iPhone and this blows it away. I find myself opening this app just because it is so pretty. A few minor nitpicks: 1. It would be great to be able to rearrange modules in the sidebar 2. Would be great to customize the sidebar modules (ie: larger fonts or choice of detail
Best weather app
Orangemarlin 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I have nothing but good things to say. Detailed forecasts. Weather cams. Maps with radar. International. Fast. And it's free, but I would actually pay for it.
Best weather app!
Prince Seon 4.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
It's the best weather app for the iPad so far. Better than paid ones even.
wonderful fun
jtomasko 5.0 stars Version: 1.0.0.7
I am very pleased with this app. The ability to view all this data is surely to help me understand more about the weather. For the reviewers placing one star to complain about pricing compared to the iPhone app... Please find another way to vent... This app is very useful, fun, and a great showpiece.
