Ngmoco releases We City
Calendar16 Fri, 24 Sep 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
Ngmoco has introduced its third title in the "We" series. We City arrives after We Rule and We Farm as the same kind of social simulation game. This time around, players will be building and creating their own cities, but other than the setting and the graphics, not too much has changed. Just like the other We titles, you can build farms to grow harvests (in this case, factories that build products), houses for citizens to give you rent, stores for your Plus+ friends to come and put orders in, and various types of decorations and custom items to paint your , sorry , sorry city as you see fit. What's called Mojo and Gro in the other two games is called Zap here, and it's available for the usual microtransactions, or some for free as you level up. Colleges are the one big innovation here -- you can build colleges Read More
Ngmoco's free to play strategy is spooling right along -- not only is its We Farm title now available on the US App Store (it arrived late last week after a short beta in Canada), but the company is also celebrating three million We Rule players by awarding everybody 20 free mojo. New players can get their mojo by downloading the app and logging in, or old players can just say hi, even if you've been away for a while (and all of your crops have withered up). Ngmoco also shared some fun stats about those three million kingdoms: players have played for 2.2 billion minutes collectively so far, and have built 70 times the number of buildings in New York City, with enough roads to go around the Earth three times over. Pretty wild. Still, as big as three million is, it's still not quite a breakaway hit -- Zynga's Read More
NGMoco Announces We Farm, We City
Calendar16 Tue, 22 Jun 2010 15:40:19 UTC +00:00
NGMoco, the acclaimed iPhone developer behind the awesome We Rule and Eliminate Pro have announced a couple of upcoming games, which both seem to be different takes on the kingdom-building formula of We Rule.  Here are a couple of screenshots, it’ll be interesting to see how these games differ from We Rule, since the games look like they must be based on the same engine. We City – a Sim-city type game that utilizes the same building systems from We Rule We Farm – Again, it looks much like We Rule, but this time focuses entirely on the farming aspect Read More

We Rule content update, server fixes incoming
Calendar16 Tue, 04 May 2010 02:00:00 UTC +00:00
Ngmoco CEO Neil Young posted another update last week about We Rule. That game is probably the biggest hit Ngmoco has come across yet with its freemium model, but unfortunately, the title has been plagued with service outages since the release. Young says that they simply underestimated the amount of people who want to play the game, and that they're working as quickly as possible to scale the server infrastructure on both the We Rule and Plus+ systems. The game is free-to-play, but in-game purchases still seem to be doing well for the company, as the app currently sits at number 40 on the Top Grossing list in the App Store, above a few $0.99 apps and even much more expensive fare. Young says the company is also pushing out content updates for the game -- there are new crops to grow and new buildings to buy and build on the Read More
Now seems like as good a time as ever to wipe those rotted plants and put your dimwitted builders back to work. The folks behind ngmoco's We Rule have updated the title with several new crops and buildings -- and even more is on the way. In a recent post on the ngmoco official blog, studio CEO Neil Young outlined the new content that came in an update last week: The Barn & Ox pairing and a range of fresh crops. The Barn is a simple red building that comes with one four-legged bovine that grazes among the builders. The crops are different breeds of beasts than the casual addition of a building. The magic Asparagus, Eggplant, Artichoke, Pineapples, and similarly titled Cauliflower are high yield, high-cost crops designed for what Young calls "power users." "We're going to be rolling out new content on a fairly regular cadence over the course Read More

If there is one game on Facebook that can claim to be the biggest it is Farmville. The game has claimed thousands of users and spawned a ton of clone games. We Rule is one of the latest from ngmoco and plays eerily similar to the popular social media game. This app for the iPhone and iPod Touch has all the features of a great casual game. It has cute 3D graphics, easy yet time-consuming gameplay, and tons of customization options. The game has only one goal, to grow your land into something worth bragging about. You start out only being able to play a few fields of corn as you play through the tutorial, but eventually there are a ridiculous amount of options for you to be able to pick from. Growing crops takes time, some crops can take days and some are rumored to take weeks. This is where Read More
'FarmVille' could be coming to the AppStore
Calendar16 Wed, 21 Apr 2010 20:49:57 UTC +00:00
The extremely popular Facebook game, FarmVille, may be making its way to the AppStore. FarmVille is a farming simulation game, where users plant, grow, and harvest virtual crops along with raising livestock, similar to the freemium ngmoco game We Rule [iPhone / iPad] that was released last month. FarmVille is developed by the company Zynga, who is no stranger to the AppStore, with over 40 applications including Mafia Wars and Live Poker. News of this broke when Supererogatory posted that DNStination Inc. registered the domain names farmvilleipad.com, and farmvilleiphone.com. DNStination is the same company that holds the domain name to the official farmville.com website by Zynga. When Mashable.com asked a spokesperson for Zynga about it, they were told, “Zynga plans to expand to various mobile platforms." However, they were not able to get any more information. With the combination of the new domain names,  Zynga's willingness to move to mobile devices, Read More
Several high profile titles have just seen an update on this fine April day. First and foremost – the ngmoco freemium Farmville-style sim game – We Rule has finally been updated with loads of long awaited interface and performance tweaks, as well as a the placeholder for new buildings. I have checked it out and the game has become much more user-friendly as well as a bit quicker on the uptake on the iPhone 3G. Get it now! ngmoco, Inc., – Free Second – the absolutely wonderful and horribly addicting Space Miner: Space Ore Bust (TMA Review) has just received a massive graphics update for the 3GS and iPod Touch 3G, a whole new license level with a bunch of new equipment, new alien tech and even a new UltracORE mode difficulty (beat the game with only ONE life). In the original review, I gave it a firm Kiss; now with the Read More

Alright We Rulers. Have you had it up to here with network connection issues, false indicators, and the lack precise controls?  Well, if you haven’t, you must not be playing enough because it’s all there, or was there actually.  Today ngmoco and company issued an update to the iPhone version of We Rule that should remedy many of the problems most of us We Rulers have been noticing over the past month. Below is the entire list of new features and improvements: It’s good to see ngmoco and NewToy finally taking some steps towards fixing all of the bugs that have plagued earlier releases of We Rule because it’s a great game, and we want to keep playing it without having to pull out our hair due to crops dying from server failures. So which of the improvements are you most excited about?  I can’t wait to see what new goodies Read More

Apple adds App of the Week to the App Store
Calendar16 Mon, 05 Apr 2010 19:00:00 UTC +00:00
This little tidbit was hidden in the rush of iPad news last week, but if you check out the iTunes App Store, you'll notice that Apple has started promoting an official iPhone and iPad App of the Week (presumably every week from now on). They're not diving very deep to find apps for this one (MLB At Bat 2010 is the iPad app, and We Rule is the iPhone choice -- both of those hardly need any more promotion), but since we've heard from developers that Apple promotion really can make or break an app, the addition of another app spotlight can only mean good things for those apps. Critical Thought's David Whatley made this point well at GDC a few weeks ago -- he said that niche outlets (like our own little blog right here) covered his app first, which then gained the attention of Apple, who then promoted it Read More

Friday Five: March 26th, 2010
Calendar16 Fri, 26 Mar 2010 15:26:08 UTC +00:00
We kick off our "Friday Five" feature and take a look at five interesting new apps and games from the past week! The App Store is a busy place, and every week brings a slew of new apps. Keeping up with all the new releases is almost impossible at this point. To that end, we’re going to be starting a weekly round-up of five new apps that have caught our interest for one reason or another. Hopefully, you’ll be interested in each member of the “Friday Five,” too. Please note that this list is not at all exhaustive, so feel free to chime in with your own suggestions! This Week’s App Store Updates – 26th March 2010
Calendar16 Fri, 26 Mar 2010 10:46:42 UTC +00:00
Browsing the App Store this weekend?  Here are ten new or updated apps worth taking a closer look at if you are: The application is free, but as it contains well-known music, you’ll have to use in-app purchasing to play further levels.  Likwid calls itself an interactive puzzle game, where you guide streams around the screen to unlock the music. Issue 0 of a new iPhone comic, centered around the stars of WWE wrestling.  From the screenshots, Tom Nguyen’s artwork looks really fantastic.  It’s free for now, but we expect future issues to have a price tag attached. If you use MacJournal on your computer, then you’ll probably have been waiting for this app to come along.  It’s going to set you back $4.99, but you will have access to the popular blogging sites and syncing with the desktop version. Digitally sign important documents without having to print them out and Read More
Many people have longed for FarmVille iPhone but maybe what we need is NOT an exact port but an experience tailored for the platform… The game has everything going for it: the social aspect, the addicting effect to make you want to check your it all the time, and a sense of achievement to truly design and make YOUR epic kingdom. The only thing going against it right now, is surprisingly… itself. Find out why! Presentation Usually graphics go first but this time let’s do the soundtrack because WOW, it’s sooo groovy. I believe there are three unique tunes but one of them is completely kingdom-ish and just makes you want to dance (which I sometimes do by the way). As you tap your businesses like tailor, you’ll hear sewing sounds and dragon’s breath when tapping on the dragon’s den. The graphics aren’t FarmVille like at all. The colors are not Read More

Though it might seem otherwise just now, there's more to life than college basketball. Oh, who am I kidding? No, there's not. But you need something to keep you busy during those endless Southwest Airlines commercials, right? With that in mind, here's this week's batch of new games for the iPhone, iPod Touch, and, soon enough, iPad. 1. Fisher-Price games Not all games are for grown-ups. Fisher-Price's App Store debut includes three titles for the toddler set: Chatter Telephone (99 cents), Little People Farm ($1.99), and See 'n Say ($1.99). I must admit I have mixed feelings about substituting an electronic screen for actual tactile toys--but if these apps can buy you a five-minute break from screaming, then I say, let 'em tap! 2. Frogman Look! Crossing the street! It's a bird! It's a plane! No, it's...Frogman! This Frogger-inspired, superhero-themed slice of 3D awesomeness isn't in the App Store just yet, Read More
Review: Ngmoco We Rule
Calendar16 Tue, 23 Mar 2010 18:11:00 UTC +00:00
Company: Ngmoco Players: One Price: Free* Compatible: iPod touch, iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS Applications Editor, iLounge Published: Tuesday, March 23, 2010 Category: Games - iPad, iPhone + iPod Released this past weekend, Ngmoco's We Rule (Free*) is an empire-building game in a medieval setting where players focus on managing and expanding their own small kingdoms. The premise is relatively simple: you start with a fort on a small parcel of land and build farms, housing and businesses that generate gold, which can in turn be spent to construct more buildings and further expand your kingdom. We Rule gets you started by providing a few simple goals such as building a farm and growing and harvesting crops, which are sold for gold; eventually you can build cottages for taxation, and businesses that generate considerably more gold. Over time, you can upgrade your fort to increase your available land, and an experience Read More
We Rule Brings The Power to Rule a Kingdom on Your iPhone

I don’t know about you, but when I walk into the world, I feel pretty insignificant compared to all of the people walking around.  Thanks to ngmoco, no matter where I go or what I’m doing, I can be the ruler of a kingdom now that We Rule has been released on the iPhone App Store. We Rule was developed by Newtoy, which was founded in 2008 by the creators of the Age of Empires series as well as 2009′s Halo Wars, so you know this game was made by some of the best in the video game industry.  We Rule allows you to farm your crops, build homes for your faithful followers, and trade commerce between your friends using ngmoco’s Plus+ Network.  As you continue to play, you’ll earn gold & experience, which can be used to unlock new things to build in your kingdom. ngmoco released We Rule for Read More

'We Rule' Launches Worldwide
Calendar16 Sat, 20 Mar 2010 12:12:03 UTC +00:00
After a limited release in Canada, ngmoco's We Rule has finally launched worldwide. is a kingdom building game, somewhat similar to the massively popular Facebook game . Here's what we had to say about the game from our hands-on preview at Macworld San Francisco: The game consists of alternating between your daily activities of harvesting or otherwise managing your resources while building up new houses, farms, and businesses. Your kingdom will be bustling with activity from townspeople as it grows, though unlike God Finger, you don't actually have individual control of the inhabitants. ...Read More. The game is free to download and play and has been well received since its original Canadian launch.
