jan 17 Na tarde desta terça-feira, voltou a ficar disponível na App Store o aplicativo WhatsApp, similar ao iMessage da Apple. Ele foi retirado da loja há 5 dias e os responsáveis por ele ainda não divulgaram nenhuma explicação oficial para isso. Acredita-se que a causa foi uma falha de segurança que permitia o acesso a dados pessoais do iPhone em redes públicas de Wi-Fi. Em dezembro, um site de segurança alertava de uma importante vulnerabilidade descoberta em maio que ainda não tinha sido resolvida. A grande vantagem dele para o iMessage nativo do sistema é que o WhatsApp tem cliente também para Nokia, BlackBerry e Android, permitindo a comunicação entre plataformas diferentes sem a obrigatoriedade do outro interlocutor possuir um dispositivo Apple. Seit März 2011, als die letzte Aktualisierung dieser Artikel-Serie erfolgte, hat sich die eine oder andere App verschoben, geändert und aussortiert. Der derzeit aktuellen Stand ist an dieser Stelle festgehalten. Vielleicht finden an diesem Montag ja speziell frische 4S-Käufer, die einen ersten Grundbedarf an Software benötigen, die eine oder andere Anregung. Ich persönlich ziehe jede individuelle Empfehlungen allen generischen ‘Hitlisten’ vor. I used to really like WhatsApp ($0.99, review) for its IM-like interface and conveniences (“typing…” and read status rock), but I think the service has become too popular for its own good. I’m guessing that far too many people are on the WhatsApp network, and I’m basing that hunch on how incredibly sloth-like the service has become. I’m accustomed to messaging apps requiring a moment to refresh their database when I come back to them, but WhatsApp has taken it to a whole new level recently.  Push Notifications still come in fine, but actually loading the messages within WhatsApp can take forever and a day. I’ll get a message from my sister to “PLAY MINECRAFT NAOOO”, but depending on WhatsApp’s current mood, it can take anywhere from three to ten seconds to reply. EnvIO Networks has just released the latest batch of usage statistics from its iPhone app Chorus. The app, which launched in November, acts as a social network for Apple's App Store. It lets users share what apps they're buying, as well as recommend purchases to others--two things Apple's own store does not offer. According to the company, Chorus users have invited an average of 75 friends. The numbers below are based on "tens of thousands of user interactions and download attempts" from the month of December. Given how my iPhone tariff doesn’t have as many text messages included as my previous one (500 as opposed to 1,000), I thought it would be a good idea to research ways to contact my friends and family without exceeding my SMS allowance. After digging around, looking at prices and reading reviews .WhatsApp Messenger seemed to be the best option. Costing just 59p in the UK App Store, WhatsApp Messenger is basically an IM program, but also works perfectly well in place of text messaging. It connects via internet using your 3G/WiFi connection to send and receive messages. However, it still gives out an alert when you’ve received a new message, even if you’ve closed down the app. So in that respect, it works almost identically to the standard text messaging app on the iPhone. We have been using instant messengers for years now, and we are all used to the idea of a seeing our friend's statuses right in the contact list (online, busy, away or some other custom status strings), how come nobody thought before about doing the same thing for the phone contact list to know if it's a good time to call somebody? The concept is so simple and the interface is so intuitive, I just can't believe how well it blends in. I installed it myself and got all my friends to install it.

Now that they added push notifications, this app is freaking amazing. Forget about using it as a status indicator -- this app works as a group chat if you have push notifications turned on. You will no longer wonder what your friends are up to -- now you will always know. Now that they added chat, this app is simply amazing. BlackBerry owners who claim there is nothing like BBM for iPhone can no longer say that. Found this on macrumors.com and now all of my family has it and were texting for free. You saved us at least 20 a month. Don't forget to change your contacts to be Mobile instead of iPhone as it won't pick the contact info up. Landscape keyboard would be nice and if you could move the send button to somewhere else because I hit it by accident too much. 5 stars for me and my fam!!!  

If it can work purely over Wifi then there seems to be no reason it shouldnt work on the iPod touch too, but it is both marked iPhone only and will NOT install at all on iPod touch... In My Opinion this is quite an oversight... Only after leaving iTunes and looking at the support website does it specify how the app uses your contact's phone numbers to make the connection, HOWEVER that is not reflected at all in the App Store as a caveat to why this is iPhone only... I would suggest either change the phrasing in the App Store, or figure out an iPod touch connection...

It's a reat app and will fill the void felt by blackberry switchers who miss bbm. However, it still neads marks that indicate whether the messages were delivered AND read that make the blackberry messenger client so popular. Overall, great app and a must for every iPhone user.

With all the travel that my friends do this app works great!!! it keeps the SMS messages down and the bill down since most of the traveling my friends do is not in the US. This app works off DATA, so no $$$$/min calls or 0.50cent texts. This App is more reliable then PING!!!!! It act very similarly to BBM. I can even see when someone is responding to my message, it lets me know that they are "typing"

Seems like it does not push all the messages. Me and my wife use messenger instead of burning up text message. I saw this and I thought, this could be nice replacement, since it has push that doesn't expire and I don't have to leave messenger on all day. But turns out push seems like working for only the first message. If I send like 3-4 messages in a row it does not push all the messages. Badges does not update after "1". It also does not push if u get message right after u close the app. If push worked like messenger I wouldve definately replaced my messenger with this.

I had an upgrade available a month ago and I was so close to switching from the iPhone 3g to the blackberry because all my friends had the nvm but as soon as I arrived to AT&T without a thought got the 3gs knowing that one day there would be an app for a nvm type maging.
