Where To? updated with support for 5 new navigation apps!
Calendar16 Tue, 07 Feb 2012 13:42:36 UTC +00:00
by on 07. Feb, 2012 in If you didn’t find enough reasons to download Where To? in the past, then the guys at FutureTap just gave you five good reasons why this is a must have app. According to their website ”Where To? allows to easily find the closest and best rated restaurants, shops and services. With 700+ categories, 2,400+ brands and 10 languages, users are empowered to find all they need, everywhere on the world, in their own language. With its slick, intuitive user interface including a top-notch Augmented Reality view Where To? won several awards and was recently named App of the Week by Apple and featured in iTunes Rewind among the best navigation apps in 2011.” Where To? 4.1 adds integration with navigation apps Sygic, Waze, Navfree, Navmii and the Germany based Navigon Urban, in addition to the already available Navigon MobileNavigator, TomTom, MotionX GPS drive and Maps app. Read More
I've looked at Where To? before and found it to be a handy, easy to use local guide when I'm looking for anything from Art Galleries to the Zoo. It has info on nearby food, shopping, health care and attractions. The latest version of this app has added improvements to the animations in augmented reality mode, a new direction indicator, and support for Google Earth. It has connectivity to the Motion X GPS program for directions in addition to the existing TomTom and Navigon apps. Where To? also adds store hours when provided by a business. I found that many entries had that information. There's no shortage of these local info apps, and I've always liked Around Me which has some similar capabilities but without the links to nav apps. I like the improvements in this version of the Where To? app. It is an 11 MB download, works in 10 Read More
Where To? adds augmented reality
Calendar16 Sat, 05 Feb 2011 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
I've looked at Where To? in the past, and found it a well thought out way to find points of interest in your vicinity. Another plus is that it integrates with the Navigon and TomTom apps so that you can send information for precise navigation. Now the app has added a new wrinkle: augmented reality. Basically that means, in either portrait or landscape mode, your camera will activate, and points of interest in categories that you select can be seen layered over the real-time image. The closer the location, the bigger the marker. Generally, I think augmented reality is overblown and not all that helpful, but the developers of Where To? have overcome some of the hazards of the feature and made it easier to use. When lots of labels appear very close together, you can zoom in and move them apart. Improvements have also been made to eliminate compass lag, Read More
– GPS Points of Interest‘ (2.39 €; App Store-Link).

Navigon determined to link with every app it can
Calendar16 Wed, 10 Feb 2010 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
Navigon continues to be very aggressive at making its navigation platform a continued top seller for the iPhone. Today, the company announced an open app interface called AppInteract, which is a simple script that embeds a link into any app to launch Navigon's MobileNavigator. At the same time, it transfers any selected address into turn-by-turn directions. "For example, if you find a restaurant in an app that has implemented our AppInteract interface, you can get turn-by-turn directions to a chosen place instantly," said Gerhard Mayr, vice-president worldwide mobile phones and new markets for Navigon. "Our aim is to provide elegant and easy to use navigation solutions, for our customers, as well as to the developer community." The technology has already been embedded in the Where To? app that I've reviewed previously. Now every developer who wants the technology can get easy access to it. It's clear Navigon wants to become a Read More
Ortwin Gentz kaufte im Herbst 2008 die Chartstürmer-Anwendung ‘Where to?’ Bezahlte Reklame-Einblendungen über Werbeanbieter wie AdMob der Facebook generierten nur marginale Verkäufe (“with Admob and Facebook offering the worst value in terms of ad dollars spent per sale”). Read More

This application could well become a little black book for us to refer to every time we need to go somewhere, because it helps us to find places to go to. FutureTap claims that Where To?  – GPS points of interest is like a ‘traditional GPS device built right into our iPhone.’ We shall see if the application lives up to that claim. The user interface is clean and friendly looking enough, and quite ingenuous too. The main interface opens up to display an old-fashioned dial-up phone interface, with the different categories making up the ‘numbers’ on it. There are eleven categories; Food & Drink, Entertainment, Travel & Transportation, Health & Medical, etc. Once we have chosen the category we are interested in simply by tapping on it, it takes us to a list of several sub categories again. For example, Food & Drink throws up options like Bakeries, Canadian, Ice Read More
Where To? updated with Navigon integration
Calendar16 Thu, 10 Dec 2009 21:00:00 UTC +00:00
In what appears to be a happy marriage, Where To? for the iPhone [iTunes link] now talks to the Navigon GPS app. You can select a category or search for a business and then transfer that information directly to the Navigon app for turn-by-turn directions. If you don't have Navigon, you get Google Maps directions instead. This is a nice update because the Navigon POI (points of interest) database is contained on the app, while Where To? relies on Google information. This way you get the best of both worlds, with up to date POI info that can easily be picked up the the Navigon app for a pretty seamless experience. While checking the app on a drive around town I found it quick and easy to find some specific places to shop. Restaurants are broken down into categories, including things like cuisine categories or other criteria like "all you can Read More
iTunes connect will be unavailable December 23 through the 29, likely to give their employees a proper winter vacation. Who knows they might be planning something for when they come back, but there are currently no rumors surfacing. Where To? – GPS points of interest uses Navigon’s API in their latest 2.5 update, to bring us one of the best location finders out there. App of the Day: FunMail Just type a text or facebook message and let Funmail’s Media Brain analyze your text. Funmail’s media library contains an ever growing collection of funny cartoons, edgy graphics and funny photos. Check it out for free now. Read More
Navigon e FutureTap iniziano una nuova collaborazione
Calendar16 Tue, 08 Dec 2009 20:42:44 UTC +00:00
Read More
Where To? tells you 'where to'
Calendar16 Sun, 23 Aug 2009 19:30:00 UTC +00:00
Where To? [iTunes link] is a nice destination finder for the iPhone. The latest version is on sale on the App Store through today for US$0.99. Note: The iTunes store says it works on an iPod touch, but some people are reporting it won't install. It cleverly integrates maps, a web browser, and a tracking mode to show new points of interest as you move. You can share destinations that you find with email, SMS and the clipboard. You can also search any one of 600 categories or ask the app to surprise you with, for example, a restaurant recommendation. The app supports English, Dutch, French, German, Greek, Italian, Spanish and Portuguese. How did it work? Pretty well. It's nice to have all the tools you need in one app, although one of my favorite apps, AroundMe [iTunes link] integrates maps, but has no browser. AroundMe is free. It would be Read More

App Store News Round-Up For August 10th
Calendar16 Mon, 10 Aug 2009 18:44:28 UTC +00:00
By Jeff Scott on August 10th, 2009 Civilization Revolution released, Where To? Updated, some new games and promos. While AT&T was quietly changing your contract in their favor, of course, we’ve been scouring the tubes for app store news. Civilization Revolution SId Meier’s Civilization Revolution comes to the iPhone. We teased the release of this game on Friday, and now it’s here (a day early). We first saw Civilization Revolution during WWDC. 2K Games came down to San Francisco to show it off to press under a strict embargo. What we saw then was impressive, but we couldn’t talk about it. This is actually the real thing. The real Civilization Revolution by the real Sid Meier. Civilization Revolution, for those unfamiliar, is a long play turn based strategy game and is the latest in a long line of games of this genre from Sid Meier. Released last year for the XBox Read More

Double charged for this app...
okthxbye 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
I already had a copy of this app, but I found out I had to rebuy the app in order to get updates. Doesn't seem fair...
Poor
ScottsdaleScott 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
Poor mapping. The routing is unbelievably poor. Instead of routing me under a highway underpass it takes me onto the highway, down to the next exit, back onto the highway just to exit where I started. And, no there is no construction causing it. I want my money back.
Why double charged for the same app?
iqadan 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
The functionality did not change at all. This is what I am getting from Apple CSR: "... Which means the file had been removed and then added again to the store." Apple needs to fix this hole in their app purchase process.
Updates could make this a good app.
Bobolli 2.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
The maps and local restaurants are not accurate. The navigation needs serious work and the interface is totally over-complicated. I hope this is re-thought. It was one of my first purchases and I was disappointed.
If you have purchased this app before
OptionNstocks 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
If you have purchased thus app before do nit download it as you will be charged again. The seller probably Relisted this app as a new app without any changes except making it compatible with iPhone 3. I want my money back. Apple had not taken any action
Great app
Marcel67 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
I used this app on a 1200 mile car trip and it found all I needed to find using my thumb while driving (gas, food, tire repair). Great app!
This app deserves more stars...
sneyder79 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
Very nice interface and a huge list of entries. Saved my life in Florida with its "tourist attractions" feature. Was definitely worth the 3 bucks!
Not better
Tonymall 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
This is no better than the map that comes with ur iphone waste of mony and not a turn by turn. Google map does the same thing also yelp for free.
Charged again to download the update!!!
rixmb 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
I don't see much improvement in this version and lo an behold my iTunes account balance was charged another $2.99 for this update when I had already paid for this app previously!! It was barely worth 2.99 and is definelty not worth $6!!! At a minimum the app description in iTunes should have a huge warning about being charged again if that's the way this developer is going to operate. As a result of this very poor (deceitful) experience I'll vote with my dollars and won't be purchasing anything else they ever come out with.
range
mowens1108 3.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
The only thing that this app needs is a range setting. EG: 1mi(current) , 5mi , 10 mi , etc. It s*x not being able to see the whole area. Preferences would be nice to. Like the ability to remove certain types of food specific chains, eg not show jack in the box, or seafood, etc. then it would be near perfect.
Don't waste your money
leisuremonkey 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
The only thing this app seams to do is launch the Google Maps application (that came on your iPhone), and search for the category you selected. It does nothing you can't do yourself. Three bucks is a little pricey for saving a few seconds of typing in Google Maps.
Loved it!
MomMom Andie 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
I love this application. In an unfamiliar town, I was able to navigate to & from the airport, the rental car lot, & my son's home. I used the map, which followed me with a blinking dot so I knew where I was, & also used the turn list, which of course showed me the street by street turns I needed to make with the mileage, too.
2.0!!!
jsep 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I've been waiting for this update. The app is almost perfect now. I just want the compass feature to work in the map. If I'm in an unknown location, knowing which direction I'm facing would be most helpful. Thanks for making this app what it's supposed to be!
Why????
nikearmour 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Why the charge for the update!!! This is the first app that I have had to pay to get an update!!!
Loyal Customer Deception
Sluggo 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
FutureTap is purposefully deceiving loyal customers by charging for the 2.0 upgrade without clear understanding. If they want to come out with a new version and charge for it, great, but be clear... change the name, change the icon, something. Disgusting.
Superb App!!!
Lily-Grace 5.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
I was considering purchasing a Garmin or Tom-Tom since we travel quite a bit but decided to check out the app store first...and am I ever glad I did! Pay no attention to those reviewers who put this great little app down; it is truly worth 10x the measly $3 I paid for it.
Almost a Maps replacement
JoshDyson 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
Unfortunately, you can't just enter an address or do a direct search by name. If you had that option, I would use this app a ton more. As it sits now, I tend to just use the built-in Maps and rarely Where To. There are only three items on the bottom toolbar - and "old school" search would be a perfect addition, and (relatively) simple to implement in comparison to the other new features. Wonder if it conflicts with the "duplicating functionality" thing...
Update Charge? WTH
rah711 1.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
As okthxbuye rightly pointed out there's a charge for the update to this app. That's bull___ I have a ton of apps on my phone and never once have I ever been charged when an update posts. For this I give it one star only because it's the minimum rating. Also being as petty as this company appears to be I will never, ever, buy another product from this moneymonger of a tacky outfit. My two cents....
Useless
MobileNot 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Useless, this app "found" 2 gas stations in NW Ann Arbor that have been closed for years. Who needs that kind of information?
Ain't We Just Perfect
IMTheeTaz 4.0 stars Version: 1.7.3
I truly do NOT understand the reviews of negativity in this app. Give me a break people. You all have come to the point in your lives where it is me, me, and more me. Most of you probably blow $7 on a beer at a saloon when you can get it at the store for $2.50 a bottle. Face it, it is a tool to help GUIDE you in the right direction. It does not nor will it ever hold your hand til you get there. Did you ever think that the satellite that the GPS chip was reading was reading your local wrong? After all not even Garmin has you in a variance of footage. If you wanted a babysitter then you should of hired one to lead you to the place of your desire. This is a GREAT app, probably thee best in its category. The only thing I see missing is a search mode by name and the ability to save that name in your favorites. But again it is not the end of the world nor will it wipe when I am finished. Sheesh get a grip on life, wanting the best science for pennies.
Waste of Money-should be FREE
Swtbabu 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
Tried to locate a Argentinean Restaurant in my area. But was referred to Child Learning facilities. My Guess is that the program is only as good as what the people put into it.
Being able to read is a great asset
houdah 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
The developer has my sympathies for his problems dealing with Apple. It is beyond my understanding why fellow customers keep writing negative reviews because they were charged for the update. Try reading the product description. This is beyond the developer's control. Read first. Whine later. Better yet: tell Apple you want the free upgrade.
Pay for an upgrade?????
G852 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
Poor business decision in a weak economy. I don't care that it's only .99 how about showing something to those who already paid for your product!!!!!
Excellent Update
Tedblue126 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
I love Where To?, especially with the new integrated maps feature. However, the new update never showed up in iTunes. When I went to manually re-purchase it again for free, iTunes never asked me and instead charged my account $0.99. This is a huge downfall for previous Where To? owners who now have to buy it again to get the latest and greatest features. Nevertheless, this is a wonderful app and makes looking up your favorite places a breeze.
Why charge for an upgrade?
Sumocomputers2 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
The original app was bad enough, but you knew what you were getting (a typing shortcut app for Google Maps).
The Reason the Upgrade Isn't Free
Michael Morgan 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Firstly, let me say that everyone who wrote a bad review because of the non-free upgrade should learn to read. The developer has clearly stated, at the top of the app's description, that you can go to their website to find out why this is an unusual upgrade. What you're paying for is not, according to the App Store, an upgrade to an app you already own. It's an entirely different app. Where To? was originally developed by Sophiestication and was subsequently sold to FutureTap. Apple never foresaw such a transfer if intellectual property when they designed the App Store, so there was no way to change the developer without publishing a functionally "new" app. The App Store is the culprit, not the developer. I think the developer is being very fair given the circumstances in selling this app for a reduced price for the time being. So don't take it out on the developer by badly reviewing a useful and well-executed app.
Good App
jtjdt 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Everything is in the App now, so it's defnitely good. Very power search terms, very fast, easy to use, and beautiful UI.
People are ridiculous
jsep 4.0 stars Version: 2.0
The app changed owners. They were forced to charge something for the update since it's under new ownership. That's Apples deal, not Future Tap's. Stop giving 1 star reviews because you can't read. It's normally 2.99. On sale for 99 cents because of this ownership changing issue. The developer is not trying to cheat you. Anyway... I've been waiting for this update. The app is almost perfect now. I just want the compass feature to work in the map. If I'm in an unknown location, knowing which direction I'm facing would be most helpful. Thanks for making this app what it's supposed to be! Well worth an additional 99 cents.
where to
MAMBRO2 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
tried "speedways" found none, while two are located w/in 30 miles. got taxi services instead? then tried american restaurants, found nothing five miles away in town, but locations 40 plus miles away. what value is this. a waste of $.99
Great app.
weatherguy60 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Very informative and much appreciated. It's nice having so much at your finger tips.
Very cool, love it!
Jason Cleghorn 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Just updated to the new version and I'm absolutely impressed. Now that the map is right within the app, I don't have to switch to Maps and back to Where To anymore which was quite annoying in the old version.
Great update!
flo-muc 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
Integrated maps combined with really improved search results provide an awesome value. Sharing of results is extremely convenient, too.
Indispensable helper on the road, almost obsoletes Maps app!
Russel K J 5.0 stars Version: 2.0
This app is a true time saver for me: It's super-easy to find whatever I'm looking for, be it restaurants, shops, all kinds of services etc. I found the result quality quite accurate. And if for some business I'm not quite sure whether it does offer what I'm looking for, it's very handy to have a mini web browser integrated as well. No switching to Safari and back to Maps anymore!
Nothing the native Maps app doesn't do
Duke146 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
Yes they have developed a nice UI (they get 2 stars for that), but there's still nothing this app does that you can't do with the Maps app that comes with every iPhone. Give me some additional functionality and I will rate it with more stars.
Yeaa... No.
dammitdexter 2.0 stars Version: 2.0.1
Didn't care much for this app. The search results are totally unrelated to each other. It's not very intelligent. The only thing I can give it a second star for is that it continues to search for results as you move around the map. Otherwise, it's not smart.
Outdated
Burk5 2.0 stars Version: 2.0
Nice app, just outdated in many locations. Shows establishments that have been closed for years and doesn't show some that have been open for years. iPhone Maps app is much more current if you don't mind typing.
Terrible App
SC STAR 1.0 stars Version: 2.0
This app is awful. Shows Mex restaurants under French, Mosques under Catholic churches etc. Is this supposed to be funny?????? Would give it zero stars if I could.
Very helpful
Vicioushobbit 4.0 stars Version: 2.0.2
I mainly use it for the restaurants, and aside from some rather amusing mischategorizations (municipal courts being ethiopian eateries and such), I find it to be well worth the money. Highly recommend it.
