Calendar16 Sun, 19 Apr 2009 02:36:25 UTC +00:00
Whether you’re driving 20 miles or 2000, being able to find gas, grab a bite to eat, keep up with the news or check the map for your location are all essential to a good journey on the road. With the right iPhone apps, you can avoiding sticky situations like running out of gas or getting lost miles from home. Recently, I drove across the country (Chicago to San Francisco) and got to experience the usefulness of iPhone apps on the road. From finding the nearest gas station to learning about the local scene, the iPhone was integral to my journey. The following are 11 of the most useful iPhone apps if you plan to embark on a road trip, or even just a drive across town: MapsBuddy is a popular application that makes searching on Google Maps easy. MapsBuddy provides quick shortcuts for finding gas stations, restaurants, post offices, and Read More

Pretty interface but kind of a rip-off

When I purchased this application I figured it accessed some sort of unique database or pulled information from other sources and presented it in a useful combined way, but all it actually does is act as a front end for the iPhone's built-in Google Maps app -- e.g., searching for nearby ATMs just launches Google Maps with "ATM" entered into the search field. That's literally all this app does -- it feeds queries into Google Maps. If you're too lazy to type a few words into Google Maps yourself, then this app is for you. Otherwise it's completely redundant and useless.
Very Simply, Very Convenient, Definitely worth 3 Bucks.

The reviewers complaining about this app just being a frontend to Google Maps are abosolutely right, but it's great! It basically adds the same type of categorized search feature found on stand-alone GPS devices. Personally I'd rather type the screen twice to kick-off a restaurant search while I'm driving than typing in the right words to the search bar -- critical if using while driving. I guess they could market this a little better so people know what they are getting and are not disappointed by the simplicity, but c'mon, it costs less than a Happy Meal, and adds a feature critical to every GPS device sold in the past 5 years... Well worth it.
Save your money, NOT worth it..

It does nothing that you couldn't do yourself using the iPhone's map function.
Worth the price and very handy!

I was hesitant to buy this but I am so glad I did. Works on ANY iPhone and uses GPS to give you the nearest locations of whatever you want to look for! An American cuisine w/ Chinese flair? Done. Icelandic restaurants in Dallas? Done. It's worth it!

I love the "Surprise Me!" function. Great when you can't decide where to get something to eat.
Saves time, gives ideas

This little app will give Google Maps the perfect query for Frech cuisine or autorepair, and will give you unexpected shopping, dining and entertainment ideas. Totally worth $3.
I love it, shockingly handy

I live in a new city and this little app saves me... I use it 10 times a day to find everything I'm looking for as close to my location as possible. It's a seriously good deal at $2.99. Sure, I could go to Google Maps and dig around but this saves taps and time. Very useful.
It's either for you or it's not
soundboy64 4.0 stars
This is a great app as it speeds up the process of finding places near you in Google Maps (especially when driving), do I wish it had more features? Sure, and I'm sure they'll come down the pipeline, i.e. saving specific places as favorites, etc. but it does a good job at inputing various types of places, for example - if you look for sandwich shops, it'll plug in Sandwich OR sandwiches OR sub OR "submarine sandwich" into Google Maps giving you more hits. The only time it fails is when Google Maps doesn't have info on the specific place (i.e. a new location for a Jimmy John's)- but that's not Where To?'s fault.
wonderful

Before this app, I spent 15 minutes in a car typing "Italian kingston ny" fighting the auto spell checker and map cache memory looking for a place to eat. I gave up and used a hard line instead. Now, a few clicks and I'm there. Worth the three bucks.
Great program

Love it. Great tool. $2.99 for convenience it's nothing. I was looking for appliances store in my area. It found more that I knew about. EVERY iPHONE USER SHOULD HAVE IT! Fast and pretty.
Seems overhyped

I was really looking forward to this app. But all it does is categorize search terms for Google Maps and then call Maps for all the hard work. I would prefer if it gave me a list in the app. It's all flash, little substance. Worth a dollar. No more.
does what it says
Mikenificent.net 5.0 stars
This application is stated as being a "Quick way to find points of interest around you." That is what it does and in my opinion does very well. Integrating with google instead of having it's own system is a plus to me as you don't have to use a 3rd party system that you have to rely on developer to update.

The first search I did was under "Food & Drink"– "Hamburger", and it found three locations near me: A lawyers office, a financial building and a doctor's office! Wimpy would be devastated..... =(
Meh

Too bad businesses don't list themselves. Near useless here in Princeton NJ. Nice concept, very little data.
neat!

Personally, I love apps that do a lot of the gloss and graphics in the program itself- they work well and perform better off the cellular network. "Where to?" is pretty damn neat!
Why?

Waste of money.... This app should be free... All it's doing it typing for me.. I could type in my searches myself... And it's search results are pathetic... This app needs more work
