TiPb Picks of the Week for September 17, 2011
Calendar16 Sat, 17 Sep 2011 14:07:56 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Sep 17, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! I love Amazon. I visit the site multiple times a day, whether to order things for my home or the office, or just to browse and do some product research. I’m also an Amazon Prime member, which only fuels my compulsion even more, allowing for free 2-day shipping of almost anything. As a fully-grown child with instant gratification issues when it comes to purchases, Prime can’t be beat. But mostly, I like being able to Read More
Must Have iPad Applications #1-5
Calendar16 Sun, 11 Sep 2011 13:00:16 UTC +00:00
If you have recently bought a new iPad I have some “must have” apps you should start out with. Of course, some apps you may wonder why they are so “must have” and argue that you don’t need them. Ok, you just might not. This is my list and there may be more that you would suggest (please do so in the comments). This is the first 5 and I will post more in chunks of 5 in the future. For what it’s worth, here’s my list: This is the app, next to Google, that will teach you pretty much anything. Wikipedia is very accurate and way more up to date than the Encyclopedia you have on your book shelf. There are things that may contain errors but it’s just as accurate as a traditional Encyclopedia. Here’s a article and links to studies on it. Anyway, I like it and it’s Read More
Favorite Four: Reference Apps
Calendar16 Wed, 29 Jun 2011 17:30:59 UTC +00:00
By Kevin Stout on June 29th, 2011 In this week's Favorite Four, we list our favorite reference apps. Using the iPhone and iPad as a tool to quickly lookup something (often to settle a bet!) is an often under-appreciated and useful feature (it’s even the biggest folder on our homescreen for some of us!). While one can argue that a Wikipedia app or just using the browser is sufficient for looking up everything, a dedicated and specific reference app can’t be beat in its category. So this week lists our favorite four reference apps. iBartender This app (which is surprisingly the #7 top paid iPhone reference app) is the ultimate companion for a bartender. iBartender is a simple enough app to explain, it’s one of those books that can be found behind a bar listing all kinds of alcoholic drinks no one knew existed. iBartender trumps all of those bar books Read More

Nice presentation

The application itself is little-modified from the iPhone version. However, font selection (to serif) and the resolution increase makes this "feel" much more like a printed encyclopedia than a web page. It's gorgeous!
Wikiholics Savior
Pain MD 3.0 stars Version: 1.6
This a nice iPad app overall to all of you Wikiholics out there. The print is amazing and the background with the display make long hours of reading actually a pleasure without the familiar eye strain similar to prolonged desktop stairing. Naturally the great iPad helps a lot. However (surelly you saw this coming with only three starts rating!) the app crashes quite often which is compared to the iPhone version is a lot. This happens especially when tapping linked files (images, maps, graphs..) or Safari links. Should safari be blamed too, perhaps, but the app difinetly needs a STAT bug fix. Otherwise me and my breed will have to go back to reading Wiki on the web. Yuk!
Need a free wiki app - download this!

I've tried them all and this is easily one of the best wiki apps for iPhone or iPad. The iPad version is fantastic, renders pages beautifully, has some great features you won't find in may paid apps and you can't beat the price. If you don't need offline viewing and don't want to pay for a wiki app this is the one to get.
Annoying
CXA 1.0 stars Version: 1.6
Always popup a "Time out" alert, very annoying! And when in landscape, the sidebar is very disturbing!
Absolutely Stunning App

One of the best iPad apps available, and it's free! Great job. I love the landscape view where the table of contents follows where you are as you read.
Awesome iPad adaptation

Love the app and its slick interface. However, can't read entire articles, tends to end randomly in the middle of them. I guess a fix is due! Besides that its an awesome app!!
Great App
Walt AZ 4.0 stars Version: 1.6
Great integration of functionality for the iPad.... Nice to include links to the website, etc. Can you do the same for the iPhone version? Great job!!!

Better than most
TheAppStoreKid 4.0 stars
I have downloaded a few different Wikipedia clients, and this one seems to be the best. The only think keeping me using this application is the ability to jump around the articles. It could have a little nicer presentation like the Articles application @ $0.99, but I still like this one the best.
Thanks
