TiPb Picks of the Week for September 17, 2011
Calendar16 Sat, 17 Sep 2011 14:07:56 UTC +00:00
By Leanna Lofte, Saturday, Sep 17, 2011 | Every week a few of us from team TiPb will bring you our current favorite, most fun and useful App Store apps, WebApps, jailbreak apps, even the occasional accessory, web site, or desktop app if the mood strikes us. As long as they’re iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch related, they’re fair game. To see what we picked, and to tell us your pick, follow on after the break! I love Amazon. I visit the site multiple times a day, whether to order things for my home or the office, or just to browse and do some product research. I’m also an Amazon Prime member, which only fuels my compulsion even more, allowing for free 2-day shipping of almost anything. As a fully-grown child with instant gratification issues when it comes to purchases, Prime can’t be beat. But mostly, I like being able to Read More
Want to donate to a non-profit? There's no app for that. You'll have to go to a website and fill out the information there. This has led to some wailing and gnashing of teeth from non-profits who know that if they could reduce the "friction," more people would donate. It's the same reason that Amazon has an iPhone and iPad app plus another app especially designed just for the iPad, rather than requiring you to use their website: the easier it is for you to spend your money, the more are to do so. So far the only app that was able to do this, for a time, was PayPal, but Apple eventually required that they remove that feature according to a recent New York Times article. Some have speculated that Apple may want to take their usual 30 percent cut, but realize that would be a bad PR move. That Read More

Calendar16 Wed, 08 Dec 2010 19:43:26 UTC +00:00
Right now, holiday shoppers are flooding the stores looking for gifts for their loved ones, and it only gets worse from here on out. The malls and stores will become increasingly busy with holiday shoppers up to that very last minute buyer on Christmas Eve. Don’t put yourself in that situation–It’s stressful, and nothing sucks more than having to tell the kids that Santa is running late this year, and that’s why they didn’t get that iPod Touch or DSi. Let’s take a look at four Apps you can use to help you manage your Christmas list and make sure that you don’t leave anyone out: 1) Windowshop by Amazon We checked this out a few weeks back and fell in love. It’s free, and it lets us do all of our shopping on the iPad. It’s easy to use, and the interface is very quick to navigate. In fact, Read More
Amazon Windowshop
Calendar16 Thu, 02 Dec 2010 02:20:36 UTC +00:00
Amazon.com is one of the best ways to shop online. It offers pretty much whatever you’re looking for and provides excellent customers ratings and descriptions as well. But up until recently, there really wasn’t an optimized way to browse items on your iPad. Sure there is an app for the iPhone, but the iPad really needed to rely on the site. Now, Amazon has released an app call Windowshop. The app has been created from the ground up for the iPad and it really shows. As soon as the app is lauched, you are greeted with a huge, visual list of items for sale. They are organized in columns by topic and you can easily scroll sideways to view more topics or up and down for more items in a topic. Tapping on an item brings up its card with reviews, details, photos, and the option to buy. The app has Read More

Welcome to the TUAW Holiday Gift Guide! We've sorted the treasure from the junk and are serving up suggestions to make your holiday gift-giving a little easier. Tomorrow officially begins the holiday shopping season in the States, and that means recycled air, linoleum floors and Orange Julius stains on your Quacker sweater. Of course I'm talking about the mall, which is best experienced in limited doses this time of the year. To help you get in and out, we've compiled some shopping apps to bring along with you. Here's what we found. Best bet -- avoid the mall entirely Some people enjoy the bustle of a holiday mall. Others prefer to stay at home. For the latter, we offer these handy apps. Windowshop (Free, compatible with iPad) Windowshop for iPad provides an iOS-friendly front end to Amazon. The entire selection is available and sorted by category: electronics, books, the Kindle store, Read More

Amazon Launching iPad Shopping App
Calendar16 Thu, 28 Oct 2010 20:04:04 UTC +00:00
Amazon has released a new iPad app which makes shopping easier and more impulsive than ever. As if impulse buying on the Internet weren’t easy (and dangerous) enough already, Amazon has upped the ante by releasing the Windowshop app for the iPad. The free app will allow users to browse and purchase items off Amazon’s online marketplace, and the entire experience has been built from the ground up with the iPad in mind. The app features all of Amazon’s traditional listings, including separating products into Bestsellers, New Releases, etc. The app also allows users to pop up and zoom in on specific products, letting them see descriptions, HD images and user reviews all in one screen. Amazon Prime members will also see which products qualify for the premium service and will be able to take advantage of Amazon’s 1-click checkout, which is both the greatest and most devious invention known to Read More
Ever since Amazon launched its Kindle app for the iPhone, iPad, BlackBerry and Android, it's been clear that America's largest e-tailer is all about spreading itself across as many platforms as possible. For an online retailer this makes perfect sense: the more people that are introduced to your store, the more potential customers you've got. To that end, Amazon recently released an iPad-optimized app for browsing its online store called Windowshop, which sadly at the time of writing is only available in the US iTunes store. As a shopping experience, it's actually quite good, with searching, categorizing and buying things made increadibly easy -- almost too easy in fact. Hats off to Amazon, it certainly knows how to make browsing and buying products from the couch a compelling experience. [Via jkOnTheRun] Read More
Amazon releases Windowshop for iPad
Calendar16 Wed, 27 Oct 2010 13:24:37 UTC +00:00
By Allyson Kazmucha, Wednesday, Oct 27, 2010 | Amazon has released Windowshop for iPad. If you use Amazon as frequently as I do, you may already realize that the current iPhone and iPad offerings are pretty grim.  I’ve never been a huge fan of the Amazon app as it seems to just be a mobile version of the site shoved into an app.  Windowshop seems to bridge that gap quite nicely on the iPad and it’s now available in the App Store as a free download. It does an extremely nice job of separating categories and allowing you to quickly switch between them.  To me, this is a lot less tedious compared to weeding through search results and refining them.  Your categories will simply appear at the top and you’ll be presented with columns of search results.  From there, you can simply pick the best category at the top that best Read More
Amazon Opens Windowshop on iPad Screen
Calendar16 Tue, 26 Oct 2010 22:21:30 UTC +00:00
Amazon isn’t just about Kindles; it sells millions of items, and those are now easier than ever to find on the iPad with the release of Windowshop. The app puts a touch-friendly face on the Amazon online store, designed to help customers find what they want with just a few taps on the screen. The app is free in the App Store, and once the user logs into the Amazon system on the iPad, a full shopping experience awaits. The app makes searching for products of interest straightforward, and drilling down through all the offerings is actually fun. One-click purchasing is fully supported in Windowshop, and the entire shopping experience is more pleasant than the old-school browser technique. The release of Amazon Windowshop is further proof the company knows online retail, especially how to make buying products easy for the customer. Related content from GigaOM Pro (sub req’d): Read More
Windowshop from Amazon feels like a catalog on your iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 26 Oct 2010 22:00:00 UTC +00:00
Just in time for the holiday gift buying frenzy, online retail behemoth Amazon has taken the wraps off of a new way to help separate your money from your wallet. A free new iPad app, Windowshop, optimizes the Amazon shopping experience for the device. I had a chance to download and use the new app this morning, and I like the fact that it has been written from the ground up for the iPad. It only allows browsing in landscape orientation, which is fine with me, but might irritate some who prefer the more book-like portrait mode. Upon loading the app on your iPad, you'll immediately see columns of products arrayed on a side-scrolling screen. You can log into the app with your Amazon account, which then enables recommendations from the retailer and makes it way too easy to use one-click buying. Performing a search in the new app lists applicable Read More
iSmashPhone Review - Amazon's Windowshop
Calendar16 Tue, 26 Oct 2010 19:11:05 UTC +00:00
Windowshop is like a total overhaul of the old Amazon.com iPad App (Which is actually still available at the time of this writing). Anyone who has used the original App on their iPad probably felt that is was added to the App Store an afterthought. With Windowshop, not so much. Amazon has rethought their iPad shopping App and developed it for…well for someone shopping on an iPad. A Bit on the old App With the original Amazon.com App we'd find often find ourselves happier with going to the website. It was missing something, that casual shopping experience. The older application had a boring, sluggish interface that just wasn't suited for the kind of shopping we often like to do on Amazon: looking around and finding interesting stuff until we run into something we really want. Let's face it, any time you KNOW what you want, a simple Google search will often Read More

Amazon Launches a New Way to Shop on iPad
Calendar16 Tue, 26 Oct 2010 00:00:00 UTC +00:00
by Amazon just launched Amazon Windowshop, a new application designed to provide users with the best possible shopping experience on the iPad. The app offers a seamless shopping experience with the web version of Amazon, as it uses the same account, together with your cart and wish list. It lets you browse through Amazon’s shopping categories and subcategories with the items shown in a grid of images. Selecting a product will give you a detailed product screen, with a description, user reviews and related products, as well as pictures, videos and audio samples (for music items). Amazon Windowshop also supports sharing items via Facebook, Twitter or e-mail, adding items to your wish list, discovering what products qualify for Amazon Prime and Amazon’s one-click checkout. With Amazon customers ordering more than $1 billion worth of products per year via their mobile devices, it’s no wonder that Amazon is ramping up the iPad Read More

...I use my iPad in portrait mode exclusively, so it would be great if you could add portrait mode. When I click to enlarge product images, they do open up in portrait mode (I always have a screenlock on), so it's a bit strange. It can be easily remedied by the user, obviously(don't use a screenlock) but it would be nice to have the option. Very cool idea to use scrolling down AND sideways! I think this will be a pleasant shopping experience. I really, realy love this app but will hold off on the last star until portrait mode is added.
