I'm Hoping Its Potential Will Be Realized...
majobojrod 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
...but right now this application is no more than a 0.7 beta version. Search did not find two out of the fiirst three wines I tried to add to "My Wines" list. I added those two, but then could not edit or delete them. The available wines list is limited - e.g., it does not include wines from Chile.
Should have known better
giornobike 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Have been looking for a good wine guide, knew I was taking a risk buying it from a software maker that wasn't known in the wine guide scene. The software is ok, not great, but ok. User interface is better than most out there. The number of wines it has is minimal and it always tries to access the web to download information, which makes looking for a wine in the middle of a restaurant that has no connection a pain. If it had a much larger selection of wines, and a larger database that doesn't require going online, it would be something to think about. I would say it is worth half of $4.99 at the moment.
Best Available
Wine Rep 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Comparing this wine app to the others available, no question that this app provides the most info. I requested a wine to be added and it was added the same day. I was surprised that they had info on a couple my wines. Definitely worth $5.
Found My Favorites
Wine Is Good 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am giving this app 5 stars because I searched for my 5 favorite wines from 5 different regions and they were all in there. Casa Lapostolle - Clos Apalta (Chile), Sportoletti Villa Fidelia Rosso (Italy), Glen Carlou - Grand Classique (South Africa), St. Clemente - Oroppas (California), Chateau Lascombes (France). I admit I am not a high-end/obscure wine guy and buy most of my wine from the world's largest wine retailer, Costco, but I think this app is intended more for a guy like me anyway. The interface is nice and is fairly easy to use. Sure...it is a 1.0 and I did see some areas that could be improved in future revisions. Actually, it isn't uncommon that a wine I like can be found on Spectator yet not on Parker or vice versa. Good job guys...look forward to the next update!!
Learning about wine and this really helps!
TJ'95 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am still learning about wine and happy drinking wine out of a box, but I have friends and family who really know their wine. This app has been really helpful in making some great selections. I like that it has a selection for good affordable wines. The info that it provides is interesting and thorough. This should probably work well for beginners and wine snobs alike.
Best wine app around
Ghanta 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Well done you guys are far better than the so called the "most experienced wine guys!!!!!" please add a search by price function then you guys will be the best around
dispointed
5witch 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
A complete waste of money. Better to use cor.kz and cellartracker.com
Neat App, But I Need Instructions
Alice Bow 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am going to give this app 4 stars because I received an incredibly quick response to my request to add a wine. However, for the life of me, I do not see how to edit an entry in my "My Wines" list! I made an error in my entry and cannot figure out how to fix it! I would have rather emailed the developer directly, but cannot locate contact info on their support page. Please help!
Amazing!
The Food & Beverage Guy 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
As an F&B Director at what's considered to the best boutique hotel company in the world, I can honestly say this application is incredible. I use it to assist in purchasing wines at work and my wife constantly takes my phone when she goes to the supermarket. For me, it's like having a Sommelier in my palm and I really enjoy the Featured section that speaks to relavent information in the wine world. The MyWines section assists me at Trade Tastings and our company will most likely be using this technology in the future.
Why no edit capability?
Furthest Left 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
The app on the whole is not as bad a two stars, but there is no capability to edit a record that you add yourself. either that or the way it's done is so well hidden it can't be found. I tried to enter my own wine record and it somehow attributed half the data from a previous record to the new record. I'd hold off buying this app until the developer announces that records you add can be edited/deleted. I'll not be using it any more until I hear the same.
I'd like my $5 back please
Surfers98 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
This database in this app is very limited. The first three wines I searched for were not present, so I requested them & they're still not in the database. If you prefer mainstream, commonplace crap wines, then this is the app for you.
Great utility and responsive support
Shasari 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I submitted a wine that I didn't find and within a few hours the developer added it and the update was ready. Very good app and experience so far.
Help needed
Heathcliff92 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
If there really is a way to add my own review or photo I certainly can't find it. Very annoying.
Just terrible
phillygoing 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I wanted an application to tell me about wine and to add those I know I love to a list so when I'm puchasing wine I can pull up that list for reference. This application is not only not easy to use it requires you put in when you tasted it or purchased it but do not allow you to create a list of your favorites. I'm quite unhappy with having purchased this especially for $5.
Could be great, but...
beast0117 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
The application looks gorgeous! The web site is also very stlyish, but the support seems to be allusive. I'm brand new to wines and this looked like the application to get, but it cannot find my first two bottles. I thought I might be doing something incorrect, so I tried to contact a support email or phone number, but there's nothing I can find... not even on their site. If Perk Software is reading this, please email me... I want to be a long-term client!
Not quite there yet
VirtualPanther 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This program is a nice thought, but: - Many, many common and currently available wines are missing - The " My Wines" section does not have any means of keeping track of your wine collection, such as how many bottles are left of each wine - There is no ability to share my program's data with another user. So, when my wife goes shopping she has no idea what entries were made by me about each of our wines. Similarly, when she tries something new and adds the wine to her copy of Wine Ph. D., I have no way to share her entry. Painful. - No database backup. What happens when phone is lost, stolen, or upgraded? Re-enter all of my wines, prices, and notes manually?
UPDATE: Could be great, but...
beast0117 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
UPDATE: A week after writing the review below, the developer has placed a support button on their web site. THANK YOU FOR CARING AND IMPROVING YOUR PRODUCT!
Worthless, want my money back
Oroborus 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
I went into three very popular wine shops. I searched for around 20 different wines using Wine PhD at each and never got a hit. That's a search success of 0%. Either the database is too paltry to be practical or it only contains wines out of the reach of most. Browsing through the database, I did find a few that were $300+ per bottle. I guess if you can afford wines in that price range then you can afford to throw away $5 on a worthless app.
Wine Ph.D.
DNSRealtor 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I have yet to find a wine on this program that I currently purchase. Plus, when sitting in a wine cellar or cafe, I attempt to find the wine that I would like to try, and again, NOTHING! I don't believe this program is worth the money.
Well worth the price!
tiffany_na 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I am incredibly impressed by the customer service this app offers. If a wine is not already in the database, ask them to add it. Within a couple of days they have it in their database. With this level of dedication to building their databse, they will soon have the most comprehensive wine database anywhere. What I like most about this app is that it is constantly growing to meet the needs of its customers, which makes it one of my favorite apps.
Not impressed
oeno123 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Would neither purchase nor recommend- very little info available immediately- zero hits on what I've checked so far.
Wine Phd
WadelyC 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
interface is very good, but has almost no wines from 2006 or later -- not much good without these!
Great interface; very limited database!
Just little old moi 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
Has the potential to be great, but guys, REALLY, invest in developing your database! Nice reviews on multiple wines, but haven't been able to locate ANY of the wines I've bought in the month since I bought the app.
Wine novice
ArcadiaMom 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I just purchased this app and have been borrowing a friends iTouch whenever I went to Costco or Safeway because that's where I buy wine for my husband and I. So far, every wine that I've searched for has been there. I know what I like, and I like Cabernet and now, winephd!
Ok but Cannot update
RATBH 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is not bad, it's actually the best of the wine guides out there. But it simply crashes every time i try to update the database.
Also can't update
Furthest Left 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Had the app a long time. Liked it at first but getting less impressed. It won't update no matter how long you wait.
Buggy
NY Wine Lover 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great potential - BUT on iPhone 3G with OS 3 it freezes every time it tries to update wines from the online database. Perk Software has been non-responsive to issue.
Cabernet Fan
The Food & Beverage Guy 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I'm a big fan of this App! Their customer service has been exceptional and the new update allows me to delete wines from MyWines, which is great. I've been able to find every wine that I've searched for at restaurants and retail shops.
My restaurant companion
Corey Star 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love this app. I will not go to a restaurant without it. I have some wine knowledge but never seem to recognize anything I can afford on a restaurants wine menu. Now I can pull up an item and get some info and ratings on the wines. I am a guy and don't like to ask for directions.
This app is back on track.
Furthest Left 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
The developer has fixed the update problem and added the ability to edit the personal data base. Previous reveiw was a single star due to the great potential of the app, but slow developer response to needed app updates. 5 stars when updates are more frequent and more slick features are added. I definately recommend this app again.
Update is better than ever
Wine Rep 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I loved it before and now it is even better! Wow, great job Wine Ph D staff.
Love it!
Mikey mike lmnop 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I don't know a great deal about wines and always feared bringing the wrong wine to a party. I want to keep the price down but bring something acceptable. This helps tremendously!!!!!
Great shopping aid!
Javadrinker1 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I use this every time I go to make a wine purchase. I plug in the wines I think are a good deal and up comes the scores and notes. Love the help. Thanks for adding the ability to delete a wine from MyWines as mine was getting a little heavy. Love it!
Great info & ez to use
mattyjg1 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I bought a cheaper app w a higher rating first (Nirvino), and regretted it instantly due to its lack of detail. This Wine PhD has much more to offer: you can search by varietal or region, and the ratings are helpful because you can see which pros scored them. I leave off 1 star because it would be nice to quickly sort by price.
Great App for Winos!!!!
White vette 75 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I've had this app for months...use it all the time at the grocery/wine shop and to make a smart choice when looking at a 50 page wine list... Customer service rocks--- owners personally email you when they update a request for a new wine. Great app for winos of all levels!!!!
Great app!
Gilbert, AZ wine lover 4.0 stars Version: 1.1
I love to drink wine, but never felt comfortable ordering wine off a menu without first calling my husband to read him the selections & have him recommend something. Now that I have this app, I have been able to order for myself! Fun!
Worthless!!!!!
Jerry Scott 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
Worthless is the only word to describe it. Not worth downloading even if it was free. A real tipoff!
Hmmm? Where are all my favorites?
KHW68 2.0 stars Version: 1.1
I purchased this app rather than others based on the stellar reviews. However, none of my favorite local wines are included in the database. I'm no expert but I generally purchase wines from a local wine store in Seattle and have sampled various Washington state wines ranging in price (and quality!) and yet hardly any of them are in the database. I know I cam request that they be added but still.....
20 minutes to install and limited content
SonomaGuy 1.0 stars Version: 1.1
Upon downloading this app, before I could do anything else, I was asked to sign up for an account. Okay, I went through that whole process. Next, an alert popped up saying I needed to install their wine database. Okay, I said yes. It took 20 minutes for this database to install! After about 10 minutes the app just flat out crashed. I had to re-open it and try to update again. Finally, the thing installed. Next, I tried about 10 different searches for common wines. 0 for 10. They all came up with empty results. At this point I just gave up. It doesn't seem like there's really many wines in the app. Honestly, I think these guys have a long way to go before it would be worth buying this app.
Nice Update!!
Wine Is Good 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Happy to see this app is constantly being updated and that they are listening to our needs. Being able to delete wine from my list was a needed fix and allows me to keep a clean up-to-date list of my favorites. Lastly, fixing the iPhone/Sleep update conflict is a huge help. Now I can update and know it will complete the update the first time. Keep it coming....look forward to the next revision. THX.
Continual improvement
Websteroo 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Clean, well-designed UI. This app is very helpful for selecting a wine when out and about. Good improvements in version 1.1. Now I can delete a wine from "My Wines" and it doesn't go to sleep when updating the wines. Also, great customer service when I request wines be added. Thk u.
Where's the wine?
good.stuff 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Exceeding small database. Try browsing by region. Want a Vinho Verde from Portugal? Nope. According to this app, if it's from Portugal, it must be port. I guess I could forgive that if it was consistent, but 'Oklahoma' as a wine region? Um .. ok, if you say so.
Great App
delee1014 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
I have had this app now for 2 months. The writers do a great job of keeping up with the requests for adding. I have never seen better service. Info is great on wines and wineries. Keep up the great work.
Awesome App
netsupportcom 5.0 stars Version: 1.1
Love this app. Use it all the time. Awesome.
WinePhD
hr60 3.0 stars Version: 1.2
Duboeuf Beaujolais Villages Nouveau gets a 92, putting it in the same class as the Duboeuf Moulin a Vent Carquelin. Yet the Winemaker Notes for the latter (attributed to the Wine Advocate) refer to "this structured offering's super-expressive character", whereas the Notes for the B. Nouveau describe it as "a festive wine to be gulped rather than sipped, enjoyed in high spirits rather than critiqued."Nor are the Winemaker Notes necessarily up to date. The notes for the B. Nouveau announce, "2002 Beaujolais Villages Nouveau is here!", and continues with several other references to the 2002 vintage. If any bottles of that vintage remain unopened, they are most likely undrinkable.
Love it
mkrecek 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I usually just get the free apps or maybe at most pay $0.99. However, I gave in and bought this app. I spent over an hour looking up various wines and terms. This is much better than just using the web. If you are either a wine expert or a novice, I think you would enjoy this app and find it useful. It is also very easy to use.
More like "Wine GED..."
cdubbs9 2.0 stars Version: 1.2
I thought this was great at first, then realized that for every bottle of wine that was found in their system, I had "submitted" 4. So that became annoying and I stopped using it. That's the only gripe really, otherwise I like it. Just get more wines in the catalog.
Very limited and misleading
Tburgueso 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
It's a start, I guess. I looked mostly at French wines and (because they're local) Oregon wines, which are the areas I know best. AOCs (like Buzet) are identified as wineries, important AOCs (like Cahors) are absent altogether. The inclusion of producers is arbitrary and incomplete; major and important producers are mysteriously absent. If you're only interested in the most popular California wines, and don't really know much about wine in general, this might be amusing, and might help you get your feet wet. For international wines, it's not useful. Specialist apps like Hachette's (which covers only French wine, but which does an excellent job of doing that) would be a better choice for someone past the "is it red or white?" stage.
Great, Great App!
Furthest Left 5.0 stars Version: 1.2
I've used this app for a long time now. Developer is very good about adding requested wines to the database. Only takes about 3 days from request to inclusion.
good stuff...
Scott Allan 4.0 stars Version: 1.2
Their customer service rocks! If a wine's not in there, I e-mail them and the longest it's ever taken was 2-days to be added! I've got our restaruant's wine list in "my wines" and now any time a guest wants more info on any wine on our extensive list, BAM! they've got it! There's a ton of stuff in here, but 5-stars when I never have to ask for a wine to be added again...Good stuff guys, keep it up!!! Easily worth the measly $3., thanks!!!
You are forced to register your personal info!
Gadget Guru 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
I don't like the fact that it makes you register. I would register if I liked the app, but I can't test-drive the app unless I register. This is a bad design.
Not quite there yet
VirtualPanther 1.0 stars Version: 1.2
Update: latest database update wiped out the "My Wines" list in its entirety, all 20+ of my favorite wines entered in it in theclast year :(((This program is a nice thought, but:- Many, many common and currently available wines are missing- The " My Wines" section does not have any means of keeping track of your wine collection, such as how many bottles are left of each wine- There is no ability to share my program's data with another user.
