YouMail, a mobile voicemail and visual message management app, suddenly disappeared from Google’s Android Market on Thursday. The free app is still available in Apple’s iTunes Store for iOS devices, but Android users looking for the software won’t find it. Why? An apparent complaint from T-Mobile. I spoke with YouMail CEO Alex Quilici by phone after the app was pulled, and he’s understandably upset. Quilici told me he found out the app was pulled by YouMail’s user base; many of which were complaining they could no longer find the software available for their Android phone. Quilici later saw a message from Google explaining why the app was pulled: “It has come to our attention that this application could be used in a way that is harmful to devices, networks or users. By Leanna Lofte, Thursday, Sep 15, 2011 | YouMail is a alternative to the iPhone’s built-in visual voicemail. It lets you listen to your voicemail on any device, computer, or email account. It also has a much a more sophisticated caller ID that includes the caller’s name and location. The above mentioned features are available for free, but for a monthly fee, you can have your voicemails transcribed into text so that you can read them instead of listen to them. This transcription is human-powered, so it is extremely accurate. If you were to ask me what I use my iPhone for, I’d spatter off at least ten different things I regularly do, but “to make calls” would not be on the list. Needless to say, I hate voicemail and would much rather someone text me than leave me a voicemail. In fact, I rarely actually listen my voicemail and instead Read More
YouMail announced hitting a major milestone, having answered 1 billion phone calls for its users, 500 million of which happened since September 2010. The YouMail platform is compatible with different smartphones, including the iPhone, BlackBerry and Android. In addition, there are third-party apps that bring the company’s Visual Voicemail Plus service to Windows Phone 7, Windows Mobile 6.5 and WebOS. In the other YouMail news, they received new funding that brings the overall total of equity and debt financing since 2007 to $12.5 million. The new money will be used to roll-out a network of mobile applications and services, expand the platform and accelerate growth of Visual Voicemail Plus. Participating in the latest funding were VantagePoint Capital Partners, Siemer Ventures and the Tech Coast Angels. Commenting on the news, YouMail’s CEO Alex Quilici said: “I’m proud to say this call-volume milestone means that our Visual Voicemail Plus service has answered the Read More
After the iPhone and BlackBerry, YouMail is updating its Android application, yet again making visual voicemail cooler and easier to use. One thing you’ll instantly notice is the slightly revamped user interface, which is said to be the “most responsive yet.” In addition, there are two major pieces to this update that will “completely transform” the YouMail experience for Android users: As far as I can tell, this should be enough for existing users to update, and for new users to give YouMail a try, right? In related news, YouMail has also updated its iPhone app with a number of bug fixes and new features that allow users to create folders for voicemail and reply to voicemail with an e-mail. Moreover, version 1.9.42 also brings “dramatic speed and reliability improvements.” Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is Read More
YouMail is available to post-paid mobile users in the US on all major carriers including AT&T Wireless, Verizon Wireless, Sprint and T-Mobile. Moreover, the service can also be used to unify a user’s mobile voicemail with their voice messages from VOIP service providers such as Google Voice, MagicJack, OOMA, and Vonage. Dusan has been using smartphones since their introduction and is now following the latest trends in the industry. The "convergence" is what he's most excited about, and writing about it is the next logical thing to do. He thinks that using a smartphone is what everyone who cares about their time should do. In addition to his interests in mobile phones, Dusan also loves to experiment with the latest web and mobile 2.0 services. The idea of accessing and managing your information from any device no matter where you are simply amazes him. Whether it's an online to-do list, note Read More

YouMail is a voicemail replacement for your iPhone, but it's also available for Android and BlackBerry phones. It aims to give you a more efficient, share-able voicemail system across platforms. I've been testing YouMail for a couple of days, and I think the first thing people will want to know is: How is this different than Google Voice? Like Google Voice, there's a web interface for checking your voicemails. Also like Google Voice, it can "take over" voicemail from your built-in provider (in my case, that's AT&T). But YouMail has a paid version and some additional paid services that distinguish it from the mostly-free Google Voice services. Are these enough to make it worth paying for? Read on to find out. YouMail offers a handy iPhone app for getting started. You don't have to go to a website to generate an account; it's all handled within the app. It really takes Read More

YouMail is available to post-paid mobile users in the US on all major carriers including AT&T, Verizon Wireless, Sprint, and T-Mobile. Moreover, it can be used in conjunction with VoIP service providers such as Google Voice, MagicJack, OOMA and Vonage. iPhone: YouMail, the custom voicemail service, has updated its iPhone application to offer push notifications of new messages, folder-organized voicemail saving, a handset/speaker switch, and many more improvements for the webapp that transcribes and saves your voicemail to the web. The main visual change in YouMail 1.5 is a ribbon across the bottom of each voicemail message that offers play, pause, store, and reply actions. In keeping with iPhone apps released since, well, the beginning, you can now delete messages with a swipe and tap, and refresh your voicemail list with a shake. The big news, of course, is that YouMail will ping your iPhone home screen when a new voicemail arrives. Intrigued by YouMail's transcription and custom voicemail offerings? Check out our transcription test-drive. YouMail is a free download for iPhones running at least 3.0 firmware; plans offering transcription range from free-but-limited to $6.99 per month. I admit, I was one of those to pile on ol' Ma Bell as the culprit for keeping the Google Voice app (don't I wish that was a real iTunes link) off the App Store. Restrictions on Skype and the SlingPlayer app on the iPhone had conditioned me to believe that the "game changing" iPhone had, well, a completely different set of rules applied to it by AT&T. While many in the tech community continued to jump atop the dog pile, in which AT&T was at the very bottom, Apple ran the ball back the other way without anybody noticing. Apple's response to the FCC's questions covers several areas -- including the fact that it acted alone without AT&T's consultation -- in rejecting not yet allowing the Google Voice app. Almost as striking as Apple's admitted culpability, however, is its rationale for it, which smacks of odd logic and damages the Read More

Finally here! Missing a few features and hopefully they add push come 3.0
ranova 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Because I use YouMail as a voicemail alternative, I have been waiting for this application to come out. Its pretty good as a first version.
Finally! YouMail is the best.
Flixs 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I give it five stars for the mere fact that it exists. This debut version needs a lot of work but let's give it a break for now and hope that updates won't take too long to pour in.
OMG... WOW...
chaznet 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
YouMail is hands-down the best voicemail service you can hook-up to your wireless service. Every person who is greeted by first name in the voice of a 'female secretary' (called SmartGreeting) will be asking for sign-up info. Basic service is free, and worlds better than any carrier provided voicemail, especially knowing you can hold onto your voicemail as long as you want to. Along with messages being on the service, you also get a MP3-attached copy sent to your email address.
Finally!
JustinClark 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've been asking them to make an app ever since I signed up. I imagine this will be even better with push notifications.
Good start.. Needs work
Ericiu 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've been using YouMail ever since my Blackberry days and was waiting for an iPhone app ever since I switched. This is a nice start but really needs PUSH support to be effective. Also, it could use some graphics, ability to listen to audio via any method, and enable iPhone gestures (slide to delete, etc.). Other than that, happy to see it. These guys are usually pretty responsive to requests (at least they had been on the BB version) so I anticipate they will on this version too.
Finally... But not 5 stars yet
mike@FL 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've been waiting for the YouMail app. Great job guys! Just the fact that I can play my messages without downloading the mp3 is great. But the thing I was hoping for the most isn't here; private playback of messages. I want to have the choice of playing back the messages on the earpiece or the speaker. Fix this and it's a 5 star app.
Awesome kinda
Encript 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is an awesome app. It's better than logging in from a web page to access my messages. However why must I be forced to listen to messages in speaker phone. I mean this is such a basic function any programmer or any one with a phone would need. Yet still for an entry I give it a 4 star rating. Fix those issues it's very important.
ahhh...finally
jessica.reynoso.0920 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
if it works as nice as the blackberry version ... im impressed. youmail service is awesome and best of all FREE! hope that these bugs are fixed, but not bad for version 101.
The future is finally here!
imrobert 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
After much much waiting, the future has arrived. Awesome!

Rainbeauxx 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
I love this program and I've been using it online for almost a year. I was so happy to see an iPhone app for it FINALLY! I'm giving it 5 stars for the concept and 3 stars for the initial execution. It keeps crashing even with a restart. Please fix these bugs ASAP! ;)
YouMail ROCKS!
DansFloyd 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I use T-Mobile, so I don't have the luxury that AT&T users have with visual voicemail... This fixes that, and takes it a step further! Not only do I have visual voicemail, YouMail also transcribes my voicemail, and does an awesome job too. I never have to listen to my voicemail, i just read what YouMail transcribed. I'm soo happy they released an iPhone App! If you don't use AT&T, check out this service, it's AMAZING!
Has potential
coumie 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I would love to give this app 5 stars. Needs to be able to use basic touch contoles like swipe to delete. Kind of buggy. Will be the app to have if push notification is availabe on iPhone 3.0.
Good app. Must fix crashes when saving or deleting.
(NA) DOUBLE 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is great on my iPhone 3G and I am glad it has been made available. I've used YouMail since 2005/6 with a Motorola SLVR. I hope some updates will be available soon to stop the app from crashing when messages are saved or deleted.
Great app
Cobra dan 4.0 stars Version: 1.0
Love this app makes it much easier than using a computer or using phone email to check your VM. I do agree with others that there needs to be a "swipe to delete" function.
Pro communicator
The-real-mark-man 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This is a great application and I can recommend it to my friends knowing it is a great tool!!!
The best!
jjnim24 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've used youmail for over a year, now "theres an app for that" perfect!
5 star pending...
Clovis, Ca 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
That they go in and make some much needed fixes. Many have been noted by others so I won't beat the dead horse. As for my beef, you need to be able to access the greetings availiable, to add them, and then assign them to ones contacts from within the app. Or at least from safari which I can no longer do since i "made a shortcut for the iphone" on the site. Earn your stars and fix it!!!
I love You Mail!
Sherpasherpa 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
You Mail is awesome. Try it, you won't be sorry!!
the long-awaited
Jayisthatnice 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
like somebody said before me, I give this app five stars just for it's mere exsistense alone. I have been using YouMail for almost a year now and I absolutely love it. especially the price. (free) the app does the job of giving us tmobile users visual voicemail and so many more features as well. I highly recommend to all YouMail iPhone owners. features to add in updates might be the ability to listen to voicemail thru the ear piece, better sorting options for the voicemails.great app!!!
You mail rocks
RN2009 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Great app... Love it! I have been using it for about 6months now
Great Interface for YouMail
AudioAttitude 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've been using YouMail for about a month and love the service. This app make managing incoming and greeting messages a snap.
Minus 5 Stars
Tcj1956 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
App only has some features that work. Can't upload your contact list so you can use the coolest feature of reconizing the caller by first name. Wrote the compnay and reported issue on the You Mail site and they didn't respond. THANK YOU makes me want to upgrade!!!!!!

quinacho 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
Esta app. es lo mejor que he puesto en mi iPhone, es muy profesional que al llamar alguien de tus contactos los reciba por el nombre. Lo recomiendo 100% y es muy cencillo de programar
Unbearable load times
SETh of MONROVIA 1.0 stars Version: 1.0
It takes forever for anything to load if it does load at all. Not many features. Nice that there's finally an app but there might as well not be an app. Until fixes are made it's not worth downloading
great idea, poorly executed
seanjosephs 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
the service itse;f is brilliant, but this app is far too buggy and as other reviewers have said, not enough common iphone controls.
Nice app
butrusgali 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
With potential to be better.
Very pleased.
Cristgarage 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
I've been using the free service from YouMail and think it's very good. Uploaded contacts worked just fine, and friends and family really get a kick out of all the different greetings. I really like being able to select a different greeting for each contact. Very slick.
Customers love it!
GarPuc 5.0 stars Version: 1.0
This app is very customizable and my customers love it. Personal VM greetings add that extra touch.
iPod Touch???
Everything iBulletin 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
I LOVE YOUMAIL... on my BlackBerry. I was hoping I could check my email on iPod Touch but NOPE! PLEASE! PLEASE! PLEASE! make this iPod Touch compatible!!! PLEASE!!!
No iPod Touch?
toastersocks 2.0 stars Version: 1.0
It would be nice if this worked on iPod Touch. What's the reason it's iPhone only? It's more convenient for me to see all who I have messages from visually when I am in a WiFi hotspot than to deal with the voice interface. Seems like an artificial restriction rather than actual incompatibility.
Great, but not quite there.
Todd3835 3.0 stars Version: 1.0
So I've been using YouMail for a very long time, first on T-Mobile, then on ATT. YouMail was a huge reason I switched to ATT , so I could have true voicemail notifications. You thing I really would like to see is Push notification to alert me of new messages. Sure, I could have text messages tell me, but once I dismiss them, there's no reminder short of opening the YouMail program.
