Watch AVI videos with yxplayer

A month or two back, I shelled out US$4.99 to pick up a copy of yxplayer, a video playback utility available on the App Store. Yxplayer isn't particularly user friendly or over designed. I am also about as far away from yxplayer's core demographic as anyone can get. (More about that later.) And yet, I'm going to give it a double pair of thumbs up and recommend it to anyone who owns a video-capable camera that shoots AVI video. I am a mom. I own an inexpensive Creative Vado unit. Right now they're selling at Amazon for about $50. We picked ours up at a Newegg sale for something like $25 shipped last year. It's a great little Flip-like video system that my 7-year-old can happily use and that works well with our living-room media Mac mini. It takes pictures (they aren't fabulously good) and shoots AVI video (ditto) and my Read More

Has great potential!

Didn't know what to expect. Bought it anyways and to be fair it actually works. I have only tried avi and mkv. Avi worked very well and mkv did tend to stutter. Got it as a solution to put video on the iPad without lengthy conversion times. Adding full length avi movie files is quick. This app isn't perfect but seems to have a great amount of potential. Looking forward to future updates and improvements.

Also took a chance and got this app. AVI(xvid) files play ok but there is slight delay in the frame rate and sound sync, but is totally watchable. FLV files player better, have not tried other formats yet. To be fair it's the first one of it's kind on the app store and I'm surprised that this app even approved. I hope the developers read this and provide an update soon. Also hope they can put password protection for files and folders.
Good but not perfect

Plays DivX format nicley with a one glitch I noticed - can't scoll forward when the movie was like 3 quarters in. Also does not remember last played position. HD MKV did not play properly. Gittery effect. 2.5 stars I would say.
An AVI on an iPad / iAnything. Finally!

I have to say - I'm not sure if I'm lucky but I like it a lot. I grabbed 3 random AVIs from my movie library and they all played "good" not great. I'd like to be able to "fine tune" it by changing frame rates or quality for some files. In general, the 3 that I watched needed a faster frame rate. I'm going to asume this is a limitation of the iPad. I'm surprised to see this app here anyway. These files types were never intended to be on the iPad so cut 'em some slack. Thanks to Apple for opening things up a bit. I can live with a little bit of choppiness compared to the hours/days of conversions I was doing before. I'd also like Apple to know that the same could be said for "some" flash. We understand it wasn't meant for the ipad, but how about letting me use a flash checkout or navigation for some sites. I don't need a HD checkout. Ya know... I'd also like to see more support for the creater of the app. There are a bunch of AVI formats so what can and can't be read? My only complaint would be the importing of the video by being hooked up (usb) to iTunes. Thats always clunky on such a seamless unit like the iPad. We put a man on the moon but we can't do a WiFi transfer? Really? I have a workaround so importing doesn't bother me anymore but still. I'd love to see an option in ipad/ iphone, to add files (wherever) and then "Open As" / "Open With" as well. If you can't live with the quality - it can only get better. Go ahead and go back to converting everything or check out "orblive". I'll be over here watching a movie. (I'm posting this the night before the June announcement so since I wrote this it will all be solved tomorrow. Thats how it works.)
It can be much better

This thing does not play any of the mentioned formats properly it's like juggle except for the flv it plays that nicely & who uses flv any way..!? & about the mkv just forget it! I hope there is an update to play videos nicely.
Waste of money!
